Had mine 6 months now & is still ok.

Everyone knows the lid is crap! If you treat it gently it will be ok - if you know beforehand what to expext why go break the lid off?

When I first had my car the handle was not sitting flush with the lid and came off many, many times. One day I refitted it (for the umpteenth time) and purely by accident I inserted the spring differently and the handle turned out flush with the lid. Since then it has not come off so maybe that's the answer: The handle needs to sit flush with the lid.

THE PROBLEM WITH THE HANDLE COMING OFF IN YOUR HAND CAN BE SOLVED BY REMOVEING THE BACK COVER THERE ARE TWO POSTS NEAR WHERE THE CATCH FITS SHORTEN THESE POSTS WITH A FILE BY THE AMOUNT OF THE GAP BETWEEN THE FRONT AND BACK COVER THEN AS IF BY MAGIC THE CATCH WONT FALL APART EVERY TIME YOU OPEN IT

Does your modification of the post apply to the

Peugeot or Toyota lid? (Oval or Rectangular handle)

My 12 month old Aygo is the same. The handle does not sit flush.

But on the other hand, it doen't fall open. :yahoo:(yet)

I saw a picture of a 107 (or maybe C1) glovebox lid, it *looked* like the catch as a proper assembly. Might be a better option?

EDIT : Hazaaaaa!

Looks a bit more substantial no?

The catch for the Peugeot lid is even worse: it is much smaller, so it can swivel sideways WAY too easy.

It is also held closed by a metal spring, but this spring is so strn that it actually pusehes apart

the front and back of the lid, allowing even more room for swivel of the latch...

Reading all this makes me glad the glove box lid was missing in my blue! :)

I had to look it up :

PDI = Pre-Delivery Inspection - an inspection performed on a car, home, or other item to be sold

Was that a serious statement? :o

Yep, im guessing there are so many problems with the poor one that is fitted now its easier for them to remove while they try and sort the problem.

If that really IS true, do they also reimburse you for it???

Since the lid is an extra bit of kit that is charged WAY too exensive for what it is

anyway I would not agree on them taking it off without any form of compensation...

When I was picking my car up I asked the dealer about why it was missing in my blue. He looked perplexed and offered to look into it for me. I'd already read about how flimsy they were and wasn't impressed when I'd seen one in the flesh so I told him not to bother! :P

Only thing is I'm gonna have to buy a bag or something so I can carry my sat nav etc without them being exposed.

How much does the lid cost if you buy it as an extra?

The handle on mine has just broken off again, I'll get them to look at it when it goes back this week with its leaking problem.
