Hi, I'm also having this problem with my surf. Only option I've found so far is to replace the existing mechanism and motor or the whole rear door (which ever is cheapest). Annoying thing is all breakers seem to only sell the rear door empty of all components. The mechanism has been removed from mine at the moment and window is blocked to keep it from falling down/opening untill I can source a part and resolve the problem. Pointless having all that space in the rear and not being able to use it hey!

You can use the rear nearside passenger door motor from most other Toyota's of similar age cars.

Hi guys,

Sounds like the motor is OK, just everything is tight.

The best way is to lubricate every moving part you can find in there, (I do this regularly) coppa slip is fine, WD40 in the glass runners works well, include the uppers also. There is a way to fool the switches and allow you to move the glass with the gate down, but be carefull it does not fall out, I think it's something to do with closing the catches on both sides, or do it from inside. Hope this helps.
