Hi,

Noticed at the weekend that my Aygo is making a grinding noise under hard right-hand cornering (e.g. roundabouts). The noise sounds like it's coming from the wheel on the front passenger side. The car is about a year old and has had its first service but has only done 3000 miles. In fact, it's hardly been used at all recently and I'm hoping that's the problem. My guess is that it is corrosion on the brake disc that is coming into contact with the pads when the suspension is compressed under cornering.

If that's all it is then no problem, but if this is a known or common fault or anyone thinks I should be getting it checked by the dealer then please say so.

Cheers,

Gareth

I'd be surprised if it were that. The relationship of the pads to the disk doesn't change under cornering.

Get it checked. It should be a warranty issue whatever it is I would have thought. It could be nothing or it could be serious, so better to be on the safe side.

Hi Gareth

Did you wash the car before not using for a while - I has a funny grinding noise having washed mine and then not moving for 3 weeks - it was the front right brake calliper being seized - only noticed it while braking and turning left

I'm sure it's something like that. I jet-washed it last weekend and didn't use it for days. Did your caliper free up of its own accord?

I can't see it being anything serious - faults don't generally develop while the car is standing still :)

Took it to Mr T - who found problems with all my brakes.

You should be able to tell if it's a siezed calliper as the whole wheel will be getting HOT :(

Definately take it in to be checked as I am now waiting for new driveshaft on my 2 year old Aygo! It is being done under warranty of course but still am slightly disappointed that it needs to be done at all.

I do love the Aygo though and will look forward to a non-noise making near side wheel when cornering again!

I never have more than one person in the back, i refuse to have a full car with my alloys.

I did once when I first got them for a test...... but it scrapped :( and chucked one out to walk :)

Hi - what sort of mileage had you done? As above, I've only done about 3000 miles so a driveshaft would be very poor.

There is a small metal plate that protects the disc and othar parts from grit and stones. If it takes a big knock it can get slightly bent onto the disc and this does slightly alter when you turn the wheel. Just bend it back out. It happened to my wife's car as well, it sounds like a wheel bearing or similar but only happens when you turn one way or the other ;)

If it is only during cornering and only one way then perhaps a wheel bearing has failed.
