I've recently had to replace my thermostat. It was melted shut at one point and would have blown water out kinda similar to the way you must be seeing. I think thats why the guy who sold it to me got rid. They're pretty easy to get out and have a look at.

I'm no pro but failing that it could be your water pump or some sort of blockage. Have you tried flushing the system and starting again?
