Help...corolla Gti Afew Problem

Hi guys i brought a Toyota Corolla GTi afew weeks ago, ive motd it and got the top end of the engine rebuild..

after the car has been fixed i noticed that it still has afew problems

main problem is when i start the car up, the engine management light comes on afer afew minutes, stright after the light comes on the car loses all its power and drives like a 1.3 corolla gl, what could be the fault?? could it be a ECU problem

the dash lights dont work, also the speedo gauge dosnt work, other then that all the other gauges work on the dash, ive checked all fuses and relays but cant find the fault

I dont have mechanical knowledge but i had a similar problem with one of my old Twinnys with the dash.

Have a look to see if the Speedo cable is hooked into the dials properly. If the speedo and millege thing dont work its most likely that your Speedo cable needs replacing.

A number of things could affect the dash lights but once i took the bottom panel of the dash (One that has the bonnet release catch on), And forgot to plug the dimmer switch button in and without it the lights didnt work.

Have a look for faults like that.

thanks mate, i did take the bottom panel off and realised the dimer switch wasnt connected to any thing, i fault the plug for it and connected it and bingo cant the dash lights back on also the speedo is working

only thing which i realised wasnt working was the clock on the dash

also still having the problem with the engine mangement light, got someone to come out on saturday to look at it...
