Parts Replaced

Rite lads

Iv had to do a fair few jobs since i bought my car. She's prob one of the higher mileage cars on here. 87k rite now

Things on the car that have been replaced since new

Clutch

She has a short block at 50k, not by me, last owner

Air injection pump

Compressor for air con

Air flow meter

Idler

She also need a new condensor now, corrosion

First 3 are expensive jobs, i didnt do the clutch

Usual pads discs tyres also but to be expected

Lots of rattles from engine/exhaust also, bits loose. Prob the fella that replaced the engine, toyota thou.

What this thread is about is I want to get an idea of the parts other members have had replaced, either out of their own pocket or warranty work by toyota.

Build up a good picture of the parts that go on this car.

Anyone had a head gasket go, how many have had bent valves, short blocks, brake master cylinders, bushes replaced, gearbox, think nearly everone has had a clutch!!

Everything you or someone else had done to the car to be honest, even small stuff.

The reason im asking is Im going to be over in England for the summer so if i can find a crashed newish t sport i mite have a day out for myself at the scrapyard!!!!

Plus mite be a good idea to have this thread for someone looking at buying a t sport, can see has the car they are looking at have these bits done, will they have bills soon

Anyways thats it people, please feel free to post all your problems

Its good to share :D

Thanks

2 clutches - both upgraded parts done under warranty

shift cables - upgraded parts done under warranty

clutch master cylinder - again upgraded part done under warranty

headlight - warranty work

pivot arm in the gearbox - warranty work although it didnt need replacing

driveshaft boot also under warranty

i also have replaced the lift bolts which cost me a massive £2 and a fiver for the cam cover gasket. i also had to replace two droplinks when i changed the springs but that was my fault.

i also managed to get all 4 discs changed at the cost of the dealer as he sold me a car with worn brakes which i pointed out on the test drive and was promised the car would go through the workshop before i picked her up - usual toyota dealer 5hite!

well i think thats it - quite a lot in the 2 years i've owned her

2 Clutches ?? what mileage is yours? did they get the first one wrong or something??

Not really had anything replace on on mine & hopefully not for a while!! only disc brakes that before i took delivery of the car but thats common to replace them since my last car a 2003 mazda needed new discs at 13/14 k miles

Hey Guys,

Mine needed a new clutch release bearing after about 4 months, done under warranty. Clutch made a buzzy sound untill you touched the clutch pedal just a tiny bit, then it stopped. Fairly quick fix once the part arrived.

Then about 1 year in i had to get a whole new short motor for the car. Apparently something to do with either the pistons or cylinder walls going oval?? So i was told  , but they replaced the whole bottom end and pistons under warranty with a new crate motor, so i had to properly break the car in for the next 500 miles as the new block wasnt bench run in the way a car would normally roll out of the showroom. Was a bit of a pain cos i didnt have the car for 2 weeks :crybaby:

Needed a new set of front brake pads at 2 year service, nothing major.

Touching wood.... and again.... I havent had any further problems with it since then.

Considering myself quite lucky overall..

53 Plate with FSH 41k at the mo

Clutch when bought at 21k

Discs & Pads all round at 40k

4 Tyres at 38k

Front Shockers at 33k (only 1 leaking but did both for obvious reasons)

Thats it so far (touchwood)

Yours and mine must have been built on the same shift ae102!! Rite behind each other :D

You've had a fair few problems

Getting somewhere anyway lads, most bits that have been replaced have been wear items, !Removed! engine should last longer thou, clutch too. Id say I'm alright with the new block in my car. I wouldn’t mind having a spare head for the engine if it came at handy money. Even if i sell the car its always worth something to someone.

You would see the odd head on e bay, but then you look at his last purchase and it that. Be a load of scrap. Even so, just to have the valves and camshafts be something if they were ok.

Nice to have a gearbox to, iv heard a few things bout them failing.

Keep them coming lads and ladies

I’m here to listen to all your problems(t sport related only, :D ), no charge for this service, feel free to get it all off your chest, you'll feel better for it

Trust me I’m a professional B)

02 52K, Front shocker replaced (weeping oil) last year, otherwise all original. 3 Tyres at 44K , Pads and discs original, clutch operation still as good as new. Had a squeaky idler pulley 3 years ago, you can actually get oil into these in situ and it's been fine ever since. Had aircon regassed (at my request) to hopefully avoid probs due to lack of refrigerant. 39.5 to 42 MPG .

booking it in soon before warranties up - not happy with 3rd gear, bit notchy and second is too stiff when cold still putting decent oil in the box made a big difference. i'll hear the same that all the boxes are like that, and tbh alot are worse than mine but that doesnt make it ok in my eyes. mines 6 months newer and half the mileage than yours Hogie so at least we know that the same niggles are easy solved (except idle). i gather your gonna keep yours for a long while yet? i would love a spare engine - get some of them TRD pistons  T Sports on hold at the mo as doing my GXi - half the parts i ordered from Toyota didnt turn up today.................

Put so many things in to it now it would just be someone else getting the benefit at my expense.

I like it when its not giving me bills, put it that way, I hope this condenser will be the last thing for awhile, but sure we'll see. I won’t hold my breath. Badly corroded at the bottom. Can get after market ones for bout 200euro. Receiver dryer is part of the condenser in the t sport, was news to me.

Should pop of the grill and see what’s your's is like.

I’m glad that the feed back I’m getting in this thread is like shocks, drop links, tyres cause that’s every car. What would be scary would be if you heard lots of people with bent valves, damaged gearboxes etc.

I can live with discs and that sort of thing every so often. But i still want some cheap spare just encase....

I have that third gear problem as well by the way, used to it now. Ill live with it but if i had warrenty it would be going in. Same story with your cams, be going back to them!!!

spoke to a mechanic mate about the cams - he asked if i inspected the shims but i hadnt. he agrees that its unlikely i'll get any joy over having them replaced and i would get quizzed over why the cover had been off ect ect...... its funny how peeps with pre '06 cars think the clutch is fine, why didnt Toyota bother to upgrade it if it was OK? seems the only real unresolved problem on the T Sport is the bloody gearbox

...its funny how peeps with pre '06 cars think the clutch is fine...

To refer to the original post however, mine (04) has 75 Thoosand miles on it, and funnily enough the clutch was replaced just before the warranty expired, dealer said it was not right when he drove it. Anyway, no surprises to find that there wasn't any difference with the new plate fitted. And there was nowt wrong with the original plate.

Also had the ECU changed under warranty, eventually after 18 months persistence in not letting the matter drop.

Now it's out of warranty, parts are replaced by yours truly, and outside of servicing I've only had to install about 27 headlamp bulbs.

Nearside front fog light lens is broken, and that's how it stays. Pointless to lay out close to £100 to fit something that never gets used.

That's about it I think.

:lol2: (where's the post gone about us being british - i was wetting myself)

....... how come you had your ECU changed?

whats the score with all the bulbs?

The car came from the factory with the VSC/TRC problem, the first owner assured me he had been at the dealer about it, but they denied this, (Dingles of Norwich if anyone is in their area) anyway, another dealer changed it for me (Johnsons of Bootle, thumbs up).

And the bulbs, well during this winter just passed I went through a period where bulbs were blowing with alarming regularity, never did get to the bottom of that one.

Cheers.

I've yet to have anything replaced as I've only had it a year.

Although the past week or so I think the clutch is going funny or my driving is gettign worse. It seems if I dont tke my foot all the way off the clutch it jerks, as if it's about to stalls and loses all power, put a bit of power on the accelerator it it's fine.

Anyone had simular problems? Friend of mine thinks it may be the clutch cable.

Well, it certainly aint that then! xD

I'm gonna take it to my mate sometime this week and see what he thinks. First MOT is due in June and don't want it failing! :D

'02 plate with 40k miles.

Nothing major to replace other than usual wear and tear. Had front and rear brakes replace and tyres. Surprised that the exhaust still doesn't need replacing after nearly 6 years.

I've got a misting of oil on one of my front shocks as advised during my last MOT so I guess that'll need replacing on the next service.

Exhaust on dads Carina E lasted over 9 years, still O.K. when he sold it. Mostly short runs as well. The leaky shocks seem to crop up a bit on the T Sport. Nearside one by any chance ?
