Broken Abs, Help!

i recently bought a 97 celica st, when i took it for an mot the garage found theres a fault with the abs, they also told me the abs fault light had been removed by someone, obviously trying to cover the fault. the fault checker seaid it was the front sensors, then they tried again and sed it was only the front left. so far this has cost me *****loads in labour and their telling me they need to check all the wiring and it might still be a problem with the abs unit or ecu.

is this a regular problem with celicas?

can anyone help please?
