Yaris Clutch

Hi

Have posted here before and received very useful feedback, so I'm back again with a neurotic question - what signs would I get if the clutch needs checking? I am a little paranoid after the clutch cable on my last car (Renault 5) broke twice, both times in heavy traffic!

The car is 7 years old, has done about 32,000 miles and I have owned it from new. I am (I think) a very smooth driver and not hard on the clutch, but the car is due for MOT at end of May, so wondered if its worth asking garage to check it while they're doing a service or not encourage unnecessary expense?

Any advice gratefully received

IIRC it's a hydraulic clutch on the Yaris, so you won't have any problems with cables. If that's correct they should check the fluid level as part of the service.

The most likely symptom of clutch wear would be the engine speeding up without the car getting faster. Unless you rag the car, or mistreat the clutch by riding it at the lights instead of using your handbrake, I'd be very surprised if it needed attention at such a low mileage. Clutch wear varies incredibly according to driving styles. A few very quick starts will destroy a standard clutch on a fast car in no time, whereas a careful driver can easily get 100,000 miles out of one.
