Passenger Seatbelt Sensor

For lack of knowing what it's officially called, I'll call it the Passenger Seatbelt Sensor - i.e. the beep that informs you that someone is sat next to you but very naughtily doesn't have their seatbelt on.

How sensitive is yours? Mine (06 T180) seems to think that my handbag (no jokes thank you! no it's not that heavy!) is a person. And occasionally when I've taken the offending bag off the seat it doesn't stop beeping. I have to turn the engine off to stop the bloomin beeping - not ideal when you're driving along an A road and the beep becomes a screech! I also thought that it would shut up if I fastened the seatbelt but no. I'm thinking that if the seatbelt is fastened then it should shut up?? So probably faulty.

Because it's intermittent, I haven't quite the energy to tackle the dealership just yet - still fuming over the tyre situation they failed to explain fully when they sold me the car. Will deal with them when I'm not 9 months preggers!

I have mentioned it to the dealer - I thought that it thinking my handbag was a person was a little over sensitive - they said "can't alter it, they just are really sensitive".

Sometimes I wonder how these service receptionists manage to get out of bed unassisted!

The sensor in the passenger seat is shown here;

If it operates under the weight of your bag then there is a high chance there is something wrong (unless it really is heavy or it bounces on bumps). It should stop if you remove the bag or fasten the seat belt and the fact that it doesn't suggests they need to look at it.

Until you feel up to tackling them try avoiding the sensors when placing your bag (as shown on the diagram) or putting your bag on the floor. You could disable that airbag but be sure to switch it back on when somebody gets in.

Regards

PS If your water breaks while reading this be sure to print it and take it with you. It will help take your mind off the pain (I do similar when suffering with man flu which is 7 times more painful than childbirth). ;)

Ah-ha... cool. Labour reading! Just what a girl needs! lol.

So used to putting my bag on the seat - irritating that I can't. Positioning of the sensors now makes sense - as a 1.5l bottle of water (much heavier than bag) didn't set it off.

Thanks Anchorman!

Even though it's a pain to have it on the floor, it's better not to have your handbag on the seat - someone could open the door when you stop at lights etc and snatch it. Happened to my friend. :o

:) Thanks Phlipp. tbh I do stash it when I'm in big bad cities or even our local town, but 90% of the time I'm driving round country lanes - no lights and no people! Coz the lanes are a v windy, and T180 has good handling, handbag rolls around when on the floor - contents all over the place. Course I could get a handbag that fastens properly! lol.

why are women unable to close things

Mrs Hoovie sticks her bag in the boot and wonders why half the contents are strewn around it after it

Handbags, Ketchup, Toothpaste - wants to give everything their freedom

LMAO - in my case it's currently worse than ketchup and toothpaste - I usually have one or two wee sample pots (empty thankfully!) rolling around!

Thanks to Anchorman's piccie, my new challenge with the car - along with trying to get the mpg to go up, not down - is to work out exactly where I can put my bag without the seat thinking there's someone really small & skinny sat on the seat! This is what I've been reduced to since leaving work for Maternity Leave. They ought to call it sanity leave!

Place the wee sample pots either side of the skinny sensor and make a bag bridge to keep it elevated.

Sorted.
