So I'm really lazy and put Growler through the car wash at the petrol station. My dad noticed my aerial was a bit loose as he pushed it right down so it wouldn't get damaged any more...

heard a massive SNAP during the drying process

thought maybe the aerial had come forward a bit or something. Dropped my nan off and got out to check... only to find that the entire aerial was missing... has snapped off completely!!

Has this happened to anybody else? I really fancy getting a smaller, or even better, one of those little fin aerials to replace it. Can anybody give me any advice as to where to get one/how to fit it - will take it to the family mechanic most likely.

Poor Growler! :(

I believe peugeot sells a fitting smaller one.

But you really should have taken it off;

it's just a screw-fit, twist CCW to undo...

Posted

Is it? I'm a bit stupid and this is my first car - suppose I should have checked how to do it really... will it affect the new one - ie, do you think I've snapped off a vital part?

God I'm *NEVER* putting her through a car wash ever again!!

Go back to the car wash and ask if they found it....

I went straight back, and got the nice security man to help me... absolutely no sign of it anywhere... suppose if it was hanging off, might have come off anywhere between the car wash and my nan's a few miles away.

That's what I get for being lazy and not washing it myself.

Going to be difficult to repair, you reckon?

:-/

Nah should be too bad, could always ask a scrappy for the aerial off another one. Shouldnt cost that much lol.

When I go to the car wash I just push it all the away down :) cos im not strong enough to get it off.

You will need a whole new aerial base after that much damage. Also the cable will need re routing when fitting new base (goes in behind nterior lights and across drivers side and down 'A' pillar to a connector.

take this oppertunity too smooth it over and get rid of the sword that once came out your roof... who listens to the radio these days anyway..

and asif you'd take your nice Blue Aygo to a car wash

Oh dear, thet really DID come off... I thought the fiber mast had snapped, but you lost the entire FOOT!

Bummer, 'caus now it's a lot of work to fix. If you go by Toyota's manual you even need

to remove the headliner and to do so you need to remove some of the pillar-trims...

As for now: is there a hole next to the white bit? If so: tape it off, els you might get

water on top of your headliner, eventually leaving marks on the inside/bottom...

Posted

What tape should I use to cover the hole for now? Gosh I'm so stupid. To be fair didn't much like the very long aerial anyway. How much do you think it's going to cost me to repair? If I take a different aerial with me, do you think Toyota will fit it? And can I take it to any Toyota?

The standard aerials must be reasonably flimsy to come clean off like that, don't you think?

Just drove my dad's Range Rover back from the airport... getting about 7 mpg. :lol2:

Going to Halfords now to get a new rear wiper (current one is pants!), and possibly a nice new air freshener or something for Growler to say sorry.

:)

You dont have to remove the headlining to change it. You can do it with lining in place but it is fiddly.

I would definately leave the lining in as it is GLUED to the roof panel!

Had to remove to headlinings before now and really hope i dont have to do another again! REAL PAIN IN THE *****! lol

Any tape will do as long as its sticky and waterproof :)

Im pretty sure you will need to goto Toyota/Peugeot for the aerial base as it will be a certain shape/size to fit into the roof/cover the hole correctly.

Not sure on the price though sorry.

you can then fit a smaller screw in aerial into the base.

The aerial (86309-0H010) will be about £18 and the Aerial base (86300-0H010) about £26

You'd better sit down then...

Sitting yet?

I NEVER wash my car by hand; ALLWAYS put in through the carwash...

Even did so with my DeLorean, which was "a bit" more precious than my Aygo is :P

Using a carwash is more eco-friendly than doing so by hand, since the water gets cleaned

and 80% is recycled. On top of that; if you get caught washing your car on the street you

get fined for an "environmental offence" in my home town, which is quite expensive!!!

Posted

Thank you Hawke, naff off Bad Boy :P

I've seen the 'who the %$*& puts their car through a car wash'esque thread, let's just say... you live and learn. M'kay?

Don't be mean! Went to Toyota today... was tutted at and told to go back tomorrow...

so everyone has to take there car to a car wash? seems a bit out of order. I hope the car wash's are therefore free :D

It's not the same in all cities and has something to do with there being two sewer-systems:

one for raw sewage like from toilets and such and a separate system for rain water.

This second system is dumped into open water since it is essentially just rain and

if you wash your car on the street you pollute this water with your care products.

You ARE allowed to wash your car by hand, but must do so at things like what they call a "Hobby Wash",

which has a spill-proof floor (just like a petrol-station) and drains into the raw sewage...

As for the antenna; are you sure they can help you tomorrow? No bank holiday for

"Whitsun" or "Pentecost" (or whatever "Pinksteren" in Dutch properly translates to)???

Sorry didn't mean it like that. All the heat getting to my head. Besides I have a car wash problem myself. Ever since someone scrapped the front corner of my car my paint is flaking off from the front bumper and this gets worse everytime I get it washed, hence the reason I goto the hand car wash so as I can tell them to avoid cleaning that area as much as possible, however I still seem to lose a bit of paint each time. I will post a picture later so you can then point and laugh at me.

At least your ariel will only cost about a score to fix. I gotta quote to respray my front bumper for £170 but I am waiting until I have got the front spats in order to re-spray.

Poor Growler! :(

Reading about you and your Growler still makes me chuckle!!

Sorry about the bad quality:

Notice the lines below the insert. The jet spray gets under the paint here and makes it worse a bit more everytime I get it washed. And the big chunk missing above the insert aswell.
