Broken Rear Seat!

Hi all,

Just been to the shops with my wife's Yaris to pic up an air conditioner. As normal, slid the rear seat fully forward and put the backs down and lifted the base. Great - go the AC home and went to put everything back to normal and the seat base won't catch.

been sat in the boot and the problem seems to be with the offside metal pin. The bar has a clip that is ontop of the lifting mechanism, not under it as on the near side to lift the 'lugs' up so it can then lock when dropped in place.

How can I get the catch fixed! any help would be great as, we need the rear seat for our baby son to go in!

Hi :)

Not sure if I can help you here - I've just had a look at mine and the mechanisms look identical on both sides, so you either have a different mechanism or one side of it has come adrift somewhere. Have you tried simulating locking the seat base down by using something like the metal shaft of a substantial screwdriver in the seat catch itself? Sometimes this might cause the mechanism to spring back into the right place. It could also be that the 'faulty' machanism might somehow be in the 'seat down and locked' position by mistake, if so you could try pulling on the seat release bar again to see if that resets it.

Sorry I can't be of more help - best of luck

Well, for those who have looked at the post - I have been out and scratched my head again lots and have fixed it!

I put the seat bench down and slid the seat as far back as it could go to create the small boot. Then as I pushed the seat forward - I pressed the lifting bar downwards so that it went under the catch!

Problem solved!

Just gave verything a dose of wd40 to help movements and all seems fine!

Glad I hadn't booked it into Toyota!
