Leaking Drive Belt Tensioner...?

I've got a squeaking/shrieking noise from the drive belt on my Celica TSport 03 reg - not all the time and some times louder than others, and it changes slightly when I put my foot on the clutch.

Toyota said it was a 'leaking drive belt tensioner' which would be approx £95 (plus whatever it takes to sort it...).

It doesn't appear to be causing any problems apart from the embarrassing noise! Can anyone comment on this please...?

My car makes that noise but only when its cold same as my mates, I assumed the belt just needed tightening but then our cars are gen6 GT's, not much help to you sorry.

get some wd40 or other spray lubricant and spray it on your aux belt, if the noise goes away then its the belt, there is also a guide on here that explains how to change it and should save you a few quid.

Many thanks to you both for your replies - we've tried spraying water on the belt before and it goes off - so I'll check out the instructions for changing the belt, if I can find it. If that fails we'll try tightening it... Cheers. ;)

Changing the belt may be the ideal solution.

But this is a common problem that many have solved permanently just using a belt lube. If the belt isn't frayed then changing it is probably unnecessary.
