Finally got my space saver wheel/tyre. Bad news i had to get wheel from H***A for £133. I got the tyre locally for £56. It fits well standing upright on the offside of boot of Rav.You have to move the rear offside seat forward a small bit and there are bhooks there which i will secure it too. You can also move same rear seat forward more and the is a well that the wheel fits into so u could stap to seat,i will post pics on here when i know how to do it or can email u them if you want.

Got wheel from Honda, they have to order it,it takes 2 days to get it. I got tyre from Morden tyres which they had to order. The Honda tyres are same size as Rav on 17 inch rims(space saver is 17 inch rim) Space saver tyre is 155/90 - 17 bridge stone. I have put space saver on car and all seemed ok so not too sure what they mean by problems with diff, tyre sizes are the same height same as normal wheel/tyre ans wheel studs. Hope this helps you.

Not too sure how too put pics on here yet, sorry.

  • 5 years later...

Hi, just purchased a Rav 4 T-180. Aware of the issues with wheels/tyres intend to change to standard tyres but would still like to have a spare, boot space is a big requirement as have 2 dogs/pram... Have seen mentioned on here and in other places that a Honda space saver will fit.

Could anyone please advise me on specifically which space saver this.

Many thanks

Jamie.

If I remember correstly that Honda wheel has a 64mm spigot instead of 60.1.

That puts all the weight on to the wheel studs which is dangerous. Just try it on the hub and if there is any slack in it, take it back.

It is possible to buy spigot ring adapters should you need them. A quick Google brings up a couple of UK companies that supply them. Pretty normal with members on my other club who buy aftermarket wheels for their Celicas. You are only talking about £3 - £4 for one.

A space saver wheel that *may* work ok is the Suzuki GV spare wheel? The GV has the same bolt pattern and PCD as the RAV4, and beng a similar sized vehicle, the load capacity should be appropriate as well I'd think.

Not sure when they introduce the skinny space savers for them, but even now when they have reintroduced the rear-door mounted spare, the wheel under the cover is actually a space-saver still!

Not sure that in reality you may not be better off getting the 'proper' space saver spare from Toyota once (presumably!?) the supply issues have been resolved?

Spigot rings are a reasonable alternative, but keep an eye on them when taking wheels on and off..... I fitted MG wheels to our Swift and they needed a 1mm spigot ring, so duley ordered and fitted, but when it came time to swap back to winter wheels (the OEM Suzuki ones) last week, one of the rings stuck on the hub and was a bit of a b*gger to get off. Would have been a right pain if happened out and about on the road with no tools :(

The wonders of Coppa Slip

I've just changed from mobile to full as wondering what model OP has. It it was the 4.4 then space saver would fit into the undertray but I see it is a XTR reason he needs to lash in boot. Was there not an option to change out the undertray with the separate compartments for the US/JDM variety that took the space saver?

US/JDM versions are longer so there is more room under there David. We have a cross member between the two trays that prevents us getting a wheel in there.

Thanks for the clarification. Never noticed when I had my 4.3 XTR. Lol.

Any updates on the space saver wheel fora Rav 4?

Just tried a friends Honda space saver this morning, it fits on the back but not on the front because not enough room between the wheel and the brake caliper.

Not getting any answers from Toyota re: are they or aren't they going to get spacer savers for Rav 4. When we bought the car new in March 2013, we were told they would be available in June 2013 - we certainly would not have bought the car had we known this was going to a problem, as its always a worry if we are setting off any distance, should we get a flat.
