Hi,

Took my car into the dealer for new headlights and recall for steering shaft, and notice today that the engine management has come on ?

Is there anyone in the Bristol area which has a error code reader that can help me ? I stealer want 48 quid just to do a diagnosis.

The car itself drives fine. Should I try resetting the system ?

Its a 53reg T2 1.8

Thanks in advanced

I've managed to get a mate to read the error. Error is :

P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold

Been doing some research, and error suggest anything from oxygen sensor to cat. Is there any know problems with the Pre face lift Avensis ?

Cheers.

Hi, I had the same problem with this error code on my '02 2.0 VVTi.

What has happened with this code is that the Cat' has started to work less effectively or has become damaged.

First my Toyota dealer tried remapping the engine management unit with a newer version but eventually I had to bite the bullet and buy a new Cat' as the light kept coming on. You may find that resetting the ECU/Clearing the code may resolve the problem.

Later they replaced all the sensors (this did not work and is a waste of money)

Suggest that you contact a dealer or specialist (TRD in Nottingham replaced my Cat' and light hasnt come back on in about 2000 miles of driving)

A replacement Original Equipment Cat' for your car will be a few hundred pounds plus fitting and is worth it in the long run as fuel economy and performance are restored.

PM me for any further details

R
