Funny Idle And Broken Rads

Recommended Posts

hi guys ive got a 1996 carina gs e. Only bought the car 2 weeks ago and everything perfect until last weekend, when on the way home car became a right pain. car idles too fast when cold, and will barely idle at all when hot.Anyway, got car home and found a great big hole in the radiator which ive just ordered off e-bay,so im not too worried about that, its more the idle that is annoying me.Ive heard that theres a sensor on the throttle to keep the car idleing at correct rpm.Can anyone verify this for me?also very slight rattle coming from under bonnet. At first i thought the car wasn`t running all the valves.I`d be greatful for anyones input.cheers. p.s. it`s a 1.8 manual.

These faults will probably be related. The idle mixture is affected by a coolant temp sensor. This will not have been fed the correct info if the coolant level was low due to the hole in the radiator.
