Hi Guys

I'm new to Toyotaclub and I've just bought a 2nd hand Corolla E12 1.6 T3 32k 02 plate and have had it about 1 week. I bought it from a authorised Toyota Dealer and everything seems fine apart from a few niggly things and was wondering if any of you guys can answer a few questions for me.

A - The far side break squeaks when stopping. I know this most likely means that I need new pads but seeing as I've only had the car 1 week and done 200 miles. The car had a sales and service check before the put it on the forecourt so am I correct in saying that this should be replaced for free under warranty?

B - The dash has a few gaps above the head unit. I've read a few post on this subject and was wondering where I stand with this situation? Although my car is 6 years old, what is covered with the 1 year dealership warranty? If I took it down to a dealership that isn't the one I bought it from (over 100 miles away), would they try fix it for free?

C - The car idles at 1400 when starting up. Just looking for reassurances on this one because I understand that most Corolla are like this and its nothing to stress about right?

I'm also a first time buyer so this is my first car so go easy on me please.

Thanks in advance for your help.

A - If it was borderline when they checked it that might explain them not changing it.

I would deffo go back and complain about it. It's not a particulary hard job for them to sort.

B - As i understand it you get a 12 month Toyota warranty not a dealership one, so any dealer should be able to carry out warranty work.

Although you might be best going back to the dealership you bought it from.

C - Nothing to worry about, on colder days you'll notice that it idles much higher until warmed up!

Whereabouts in Leeds you from?

I take it you went to Benfield Toyota?

Gaz

P.S. Welcome to the club!

Take it back to your dealer. The niggly things he can sort without too much fuss in the first few weeks, another dealer 100 miles away is not going to do things NOT covered under the warranty. Phone up your salesman and tell him the problems you want sorted out, dont delay. You can get warrantable jobs done at any dealer, just make sure you have the warranty documents with you

When i got me T Sport the brakes were worn - i pointed this out and they said it goes through the workshop before i pick her up ;) as you would expect they did nothing before i picked the car up :cowboy: ............. took to me mates who's got an MOT centre and he put the car on the brake test and gave me a written report........... took it back to the Toyota dealer and when they ummed and aargged i pointed out that they had released a car from there garage which was unfit for the road and how far would they like me to take it :boxing: :crutchy: !! 4 new discs and pads later..............

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks for the info guys.

A - I booked the car in with my local Mr T to have a look at but the problem with the front brake has cleared up. Looks like it was just trapped dirt.

B - I'm gona leave the dash at the moment. The more I look at it, the less I feel its a problem.

C - Don't understand why the idle is so high when starting up but it does settle down after a while and from reading the forum other people have the same issue.

But.. something new has cropped up and its bugging me :ffs: When I climb in and out of the car, the rear suspension makes this creaking noise everytime. Sometimes I can hear it when I go over a speed bump as well. Does anyone else have the same problem and know how to fix this? WD40? Garage?

Any help would be apreciated.

Thanks guys

I have this noise too, and few others on here have it also.

It is the hand brake making the noise when you get out the car but mine does not squeak over speed humps.

Smoftah is quite right. The creaking noise is quite common (I have it) and not reserved to just Corollas. I had the same thing on my two Yaris Versos. As a noise when the car is stationary I don't think you need worry. The mechanical reason for it was explained very well in a previous thread but I can't now find it. However, if the car is making that noise whilst moving then I would get it checked out at a dealership.

The idle speed of around 1400rpm when cold is absolutely normal ;)

Thanks again for everyones reply to this thread. You've all put my mind to rest about the problem I've been encoutering. I'm going to book the rolla in with Mr T to have a look at again. Hopefully they won't mess me around with lame excuses.
