jack the car up and spin the wheel - you'll know if its the bearing, not so smooth and you can hear them. i'm no expert - bearings dont have a set life span, some cars go through them - never had one go on a toyota and i've had a few high milers. if the bearing is gone they'll pick it up on the service.

Yeh i agree jack it up and spin it. Also grab a hold of either side of the wheel and rock it from side to side as if you are trying to manually turn it. Any knocking or movement is a sign of worry. However about the picking it up on a service i wouldn't be too confident. Had loads of stuff missed on previous cars i've owned when they've bin serviced. Best to check it yourself now than wait. Don't want your wheel coming off on the motorway do you!!!!!!

get your car serviced somewhere decent? i've never seen a garage not spin the wheels - they pay a lot of attention around these areas cos ther's a lot of consumable parts in which they can make money.
