Just about to conclude on a rav4 d4d xt4......is this wise after i have now been enlightened on this site about the flywheel trouble. The car has just turned 50000 or does this problem not effect cars of this year! The car is being bought from a Toyota dealership with the 1 year warranty but i plan to keep the car for at least 3years , your thoughts and advice would be most welcome.

You dont say what year it is?

Anything post late 2002 will have had modified parts fitted, is the warranty the Toyota used car warranty or some other?

I would say YES, go and buy it, with a proper warranty and service history, there is no reason not to buy it, they are a great car, the DMF issue does not affect all cars, it is a problem to a small amount (considering how many were sold)

I'll echo the advise of Parts-King, as long as the car is fully serviced (it should've been serviced every 10,000 miles) then you've got some ground to stand on if the car were to go wrong.

We haven't had many reports of vehicles of that age having DMF problems, so I'd say go for it and enjoy the crazy world of the Rav 4 owners forum! :D

you can also take out an additional 1 or 2 year Toyota warranty so if you wanted, you can have yourself peace of mind motoring for the 3 years you intend keeping the RAV4

Welcome to TOCRAV4
