Missing Petrol

I got my Toyota back today after its' MOT with 1/4 tank of petrol missing  I went back in to ask where it had gone and, after talking to the receptionist for a few minutes, was told that the service manager will contact me tomorrow (he'd just left apparently), but I'm not going to let this rest. I'm waiting for a phone call from the police as I type - I haven't reported it as such, just asked for advice from them for now....

This isn't the first time something dodgy has happened whilst it's been MOT'd either, on a previous car one of the windscreen wiper arms was replaced with another (faulty) one (slightly different design), and last year a drop-link suddenly developed a fault whilst in for an MOT.

Needless to say, it's the last time I'm going there

I know of no reason why a quarter of a tank of petrol would be used doing an MOT.. did you check your mileage before you put it into the garage?.. if so.. any miles added?

I always mark down my miles before taking it in, the only other thing I could think of is if they were revving the nuts of it for some reason. That tends to waste a fair amount of fuel.

I do know of a few garages that are :cowboy: and use their clients cars to run around and grab some lunch, or run personal errands.

Sounds to me like you already gave them 2 more chances than I would. Good luck getting this resolved.

This reminds me of when I got my steering rack rubbers changed, the mechanic didnt know I was actually on site watching from the view room when he went out of the garage and ragged the s**t out of my car up and down the street!!!!

Should have seen his face when I walked up to him!

Ooooh, naughty. Did you get any sort of discount for that? Make him pay for the petrol and wasted rubber!

Unfortunately I didn't :( To use up that amount of petrol would have taken a trip of well over 100 miles though, not what you'd call a quick errand.

Definitely not what you'd expect from a Toyota dealership....

for that amount I'd have thought a siphon rather than a long errand !

Went out this afternoon to fill it back up (and got a receipt in case it comes in handy). In the documents we got back from the dealership, the car had done 31614 miles before they started work on it. When I went out today it had done 31616 miles (the dealership is about 1/4 mile from me). So, they've managed to 'use' 1/4 tank in a journey of 2 miles or less.

Can anybody else's car beat that?

wow! thats alot of fuel!

last week, i filled my car 5 times from wednesday thru to sunday. £38 for a full tank, 5 full tanks...

i still dont think it beats yours though, sounds like that garage staff have been ragging your motor a bit!

Go round the back of the garage and see if they are selling barrels of fuel!

oh, just a thought...

you know you said the documents say that the car had done 31314 miles before they started work on it and when you looked it had only accumulated 2 miles? well... maybe they were playing with it before they documented the mileage?

you probably already thought of that though?
