so over the past few weeks ive been trying to get that lovely shine for my celica but every time i wax it just dosent seem to give me that wow, it just seems as if its been washed. being it a black car i expect a bit more of a shine to it.

the waxes i have tried so far is

turtle wax platinum series

Meguiars gold class

and finally today i tried turtle wax colour magic

i have tried both applications by hand, and also by a buff, i got the best finish from turtle wax. which was by spraying water over the car to cool it down a bit, the using a squidgey taking most of the water off, the rubbing the wax in by hand with some water (not to much) letting a dry before going over the top of the wax with a buff then removing wax by hand.

that was the best result, but i still cant get a good shine off my bonet, ive got a weird multicolour effect on my bonnet,

so what are your detailing techniques for quality finish

What paint type do you have?

Sounds like that's the hologram effect that can be caused by a machine polisher - usually on metallic paint - if you're not careful with it. Might it have been machine polished by the garage or a previous owner?

If it's that I'm not sure what you do to get rid of it, but detailing world would be a good place to find the answer. There are plenty of helpful people on there who know every last, well detail, about detailing.

Sorry about the daft question, I assume you are applying the Wax in the shade and not in full sunlight in the heat of the day? I use Zymol Titanium Wax which needs to be wiped off with a microfibre within seconds of application.

no, before i apply any wax i move the car into a shaded area then will wash it to cool down the body work, since its black it tends to store the heat aswell.

im considering getting the bonet re-sprayed because there is alot of marks with stone chips. theres a couple of scratches aswell than arent t-cutting out, tryed using a crayon but thats not really much help

ive heard about this clay, never used it but since im finished for the week i might give it a bash, ive also encountered another problem is that i live in northwich where theres salt works, but there not actually taking out salt there digging the ash stuff or something.

i came home today to find my freshly waxed car covered in a fine sort of ash, (not amused)

ah exact same thing happened to me the other week and i live in leicestershire right pain. but yea the clay not sure how much it is but takes along while to do but looks really nice afterwards and leaves the paint feeling as smooth as ur window afterwards well at least untill the birds see it or that ash stuff lol

clay bars are excellent for cleaning the bodywork up on a car, the meguires one is the most readily avilable and highly recommended.

personally for detailing a car i was it with cold water and a micro fibre cloth, dry it with another micro fibre cloth, apply a light cleanse in small sections that time limes wont be noticed, once cleansed i'll was the car again with cold water and micro fibre cloth to remove any residue, then apply wax, again small sections i.e. panel at a time. removing the wax with a micro fibre cloth. then another cold wash and dry then a polish to bring it up.

heres a comparison pic, mines on the left:

FYI i used victoria wax products from the states
