Does The Door Need This

looking at my doors there is an annoying rattle coming from somewhere within them.

Does the door need the polythene sheeting that is found in every single door, just wondering like, does it serve any purpose??

Would it cause any damage if removed, would it invalidate any Toyota warranty??

Yes you do need to keep the polythene sheet !! :rolleyes:

It is there to help stop water getting into the car. When rain lands on the window, some of it can run down the glass and get inside the door. It is only this polythene that stops the water from entering inside the car.

ok, thought it might be this that is creating the annoying rattle, gaffer tape it is then to try and stop it chaffing the back of the door.

It stops the draughts too! You might find an icey blast coming through in the winter........Leave it in place, it is more likely to be one of the door lock rods popped out of a clip and rattling against the door, or some associated wiring

Do ALL the doors rattle??

You could check the date of the glass fitted matches all around the car - one possibility is that a door glass has been broken and replaced and all the tiny bits that fell inside were not removed - that can be annoying!

hi hoovie

had

both door trims off now, thankfully no glass in bottom of door. I now think it is coming from the seat belt adjuster slider after driving round with no trim for the last few days. That is really annoying. Trying to figure out how to get behind this trim now without busting any clips.

You do it like this. Note; the triangles show you where the clips are. Start where you can get a trim tool or flat lever behind and then as it comes toward you work towards the next clip and put your hand behind to help ease them out;

cheers anchorman, just what i was after.

Do you have by chance one for the piece of trim which contains the head adjustable headlight switch and dash dimming button. This piece of trim is rubbing and chaffing on the main body of the car and it is particularly bad in cold weather. I think it just lifts upwards but don't want to break it in my attempts to get it off

Not exactly sure which one you mean. Is it this (Item 5)?;

anchorman, unfortunately I cannot see the photo. It is the panel that is to the right of the steering wheel and has two switches on it. The first switch alters the brightness of the speedo/rev gauge etc and the second switch alters the height of the headlamps (ie for towing)

Daft question here... :huh:

are you sure it is coming from the door and not the Mirrors?

I have an annoying rattle :angry: as I drive along, I thought sommet came loose when I had me windows tinted... :(

However as soon as I posted the issue on this Greatest of great forum :toast: I was advised to take a look at me mirrors and hey presto... I found that the covers which cover up the mirror mechanism were slightly loose so that when driving along at speed the wind would go over them and cause the rattle... Still got to fix it though.... :huh:

Rob

Hi Nightstalker

It appears Mr T has found the mirrors rattle as well (thanks R4W);

http://www.rav4world.com/tsb/2006/NV012-07.pdf

However heysidays has a 4.2 so not applicable.

Heysidays

Can you see post 7? The next picture is posted in exactly the same way. If you can't see the detail click on the black bar to zoom in. If there is some other problem you can pm me your email address and I can email it to you.

Nice one Anchorman.... :lol:

Looks like its a trip to MR T then.... Found a bit of rust n all - nowt important just some part of the rear door mechanism, probably just surface stuff eitherway - should not be happening in my opinion...

As for mateys problem... reading the details under the name it states 4.3 - thought that is the Rav in question...

hi guys

done the mirror fix with silicone, the trim is def rattling, as when you apply pressure to it is stops rattling. Anchorman can't see the picture in post 7, however i am at work at mo so filters may prevent this. I will look when i get home and confirm we are talking about the same trim. My rav is a 4.3 and was registered on a 07 plate.

Sorry guys, I thought this was a 4.2 so new pictures are needed. This is the 4.3 seatbelt LOWER cover;

43seatbeltlower.jpg

Then the UPPER one comes off;

43seatbeltupper.jpg

And this is the switch hole base as it is called (it just prizes out);

43switchholebase.jpg

A couple of things. Try holding the control key while clicking the link to bypass the firewall/virus checker.

My 4.3 rattles from the switch gear in the doors. It isn't bad but can be irritating but as mine is on the drivers door I can stop it by putting my knee on it so just try the same on your doors before pulling the interior apart. I will get around to sorting mine at some stage.

You obviously know how to get that switch panel off as you've had the door panel off. The polythene prevents condensation from building up on the inside of the door panel which would eventually cause the fabric/leather trim to unbond so don't take it off. I can tell you that there is a 99.9% certainty that it is not causing the rattle.

Good luck mate.
