Hi i have a townace 2.0td 4x4 1991 on a manual box, it keeps overheating to the point steam and comes from cap. when running the water pipes go hard. the cooling fan does not spin very fast and is very easy to stop ( as i found out when i droped a spanner) can any one help as ive tryed everything i can think of . Ive even tryed to flush the system out but not sure if i cleaned the hole system out. i have removed the stat to rule it out but did not help much as the temp was half way after 5 mins and 5mins later 3/4 up after 15mins in the red.

Please, please help as i dont have much hair but it starting to all fall out haha

When the engine overheats it`s normally the stat, but as you have removed it ,i would say the head gasket has gone but most likely the cylinder head is cracked which is a costly repair

I have been told you can get a fluid you can put in to seal cracks in heads do you know if this true and weather its any good, as thismay tied me over untill funds could raised to have the repair done. the car would just be used locally only for next few months

The fluid is called radweld which uses tiny metal filings you could try it but i`m afraid if it is the cylinder head thats cracked it wont do much good and you could do more damage. If you are handy with engines it would be a lot cheaper to repair yourself, takes a long time a good week as you have to remove the front seats and engine cover just to start but it`s a lot cheaper than the the garages charge about £500 to over a grand

The materials can be found on eBay, bare cylinder head is about £120 use all the parts from your old cylinder head, the gasket and bolts about £50 and the manual on cd a fiver and replace belts at the same time, hope this helps good luck
