After months of ooming and aahing, I've finally bought my first Rav4. It's a 2003 NV spec, not the best but I'm a simple guy. And I have to say, I'm in love. When I first started looking I was after a silver or black model, but my head and wallet was turned by a gorgeous metalic beige model that looked quite dull in the photo, but in the flesh it was lovely.

So thanks to all you lot for helping me out with my daft questions. Of which there is one more.

Around the various black seals, small amounts of that greenish mould has started to develope. Is there any product that is good for cleaning this unwelcome passenger off?

Also, those plastic chrome trim kits for around the lights and stuff, any good?

Cheers fellow Rav4-ers !! ( Is it to early too start saying stuff like that ? )

welcome to the Mad Rav World

I would use some kind of domestic cleaning product on the seals, to be honest - whatever happens to be under the kitchen sink. That mould is there as the car has been hanging around unwashed for ages so soon as you cleaned it off, it won't return unless you neglect it for months.

Give it a proper was after though, to wash any corrosive salt residues away.

When I wash my car I always go around the door frames and inner door faces with the leather so that you are not presented with a filthy mess when opening the door. Your car may have been stood at a dealer or owner waiting a sale and will soon develop the green stuff. It will soon disappear if you keep the car clean.

Congrats on the new acquisition.

Err, say that again.

Are you saying the NV is not a 4 wheel drive in the same way as the other models? I understand the 4 wheel drive mode kicks in when it needs to but is my NV model strictly 2 wheel drive only??

Only the NV 3 door 1.8 model was two wheel drive , you didn't say which model you have, if its a 5 door 2.0 VVT-i or the diesel it will be 4 wheel drive :) .

The rest of the RAV4 models from 2000 to 2006 came with permanent 4 wheel drive :)

Thanks Bob. Huge sigh of relief!! I actually started to wonder if I would ever really use the 4 wheel drive facility anyway. I'm quite a dull driver on the whole.
