on the 7a-fe its located under the intake manifold - i think the 4a's will be in the same place. if you cant buy them aftermarket Toyota will charge you a fortune. try taking the plastic connector off and on a couple of times - this often works as its often just a bit of oxidation on the connectors.

im back!!! ok ive had my mechanic check my car for the knock sensor but we didnt locate the knock sensor.

but while we were searching we realised that on the engine block near to the alternator there is a plug which seems to have the the connecting lpug missing, i had a good look around in case it isnt connected but didnt find any spare plugs lose. now im woundering could that be causeing the engine mangement light to come on, also i came across the lamda sensor at the front of the engine to the bottem its missing some sort of plug i belive. is there anyone near to nottingham who has better knowleghe then on these cass come and give me advice? im willing to sort some money out if i can find the fault

cheers also check pistonheads ive put my car up

if you remove the intake manifold you'll see the knock sensor - or if you have access to a ramp its in the middle directly below the inlet manifold. If you are struggling buy a Haynes ;)

The knock sensor looks just like a oil pressure switch or a temperature sensor. It gave up on my MR2 and left the car with less than half the power. When i went looking for the sensor i thought it was a oil pressure switch untill i screwed it out and there is just an empty hole behind it. Its usuall located in the middle of the block from each end and usually on the intake manifold side a couple of inches below the head. A 27 MM spanner fitted it and two minuites changed it.
