Gxi Suspension Question

Hi

Looking to replace shocks and springs on my Gxi, would like improves springs and a better

suspension set up from standard

Noticed that someone had put Bilsteins on the front, however cannott see them available, could

they have been made to fit.

Bushes/linkages "look" ok, will replacing these make a noticeable difference if upgrading suspension

and any bushes/links in particular are beneficial to repalce

Any advice appreciated for a fast road set up, or if there is one for sale...

Thanks...

Bilstein shocks were standard on some Toyotas of that era.

I've recently upgraded the standard units on my MR2 to Tein adjustable coilovers (Super Streets with standard mounts) and would recommend them highly.

Even on a very soft setting they give great control and the ride quality is so smooth. I wouldn't recommend a very hard spring / shock combination for road use though; you'll shake your fillings out and the car will just bounce off every bump with less control than a standard setup. If you're planning on tracking it then adjustable units are the only way to go so that you can get the best of both worlds.

alright Mike

had a lil look on Billies site, got two listings for our car:

Front: F4VNE4818BA (L)

Rear: F4VNE4946BA (L)

Front: F4VNE4818BK ®

Rear: F4VNE4947BA ®

Havent decided how to set mine up yet. There was a lil old skool Swift in Banzai this month, car looked like a Twinny that had been on a hot wash! The GXi i picked up is running the same set-up as you at the mo - fensport springs on standard shocks, although the shocks have been replaced. it doesnt feel right but tbh i aint had the oppurtunity to test. the lil Swift had gone for a stiffer set-up on the rear - even tho it was lightened - which he claimed help the front grip in on cornering. Hopefully next month i can get on with the fun stuff....................

as for not going for a stiff set-up on a road car - the car is more easy to upset on certain surfaces, you wouldnt be going quick on them surfaces anyway not matter what set-up you have unless you are rallying. the thing when you go low and hard  is the ABS kicks in at the times when it aint needed -

again potholes.

Let us know what you go for - the KYB's are alright for the money but the ride is bad and you'll find your always driving hard on a stiff set-up

What tyres do you run on at the moment and what size wheels do you use?

On stock everyting at the moment

Nankangs (Yokohama's)

Heard good things about Gaz and Bilsteins- although they are supposed to be very stiff.

Looking for uprated springs, not necessarily lowered and thinking about bush/linkage repalcement

although m ine look ok the car does not feel glued to the road like a previous gxi I had.

Anyone else have any suggestions for our GXI suspension set up ?

Cheers.

when i had me other GXi i changed the springs and shocks for uprated as i presumed these had worn as the suspension had lost a lot of its feel and felt a bit............ well how yours is probably feeling now. in hindsight and knowing a bit more now i would have done the bushes first. on the one i have now i'm considering running stock shocks on the lowered springs - btbh they dont complement each other so may have to look into some eibachs for every day and replacing/uprating? the bushes and using trd mounts. i also want to go to the 'ring so i could swap over the stiff shocks and springs for that as i have a set. Whats peeps experiences of poly bushes? TRD do bushes but they dont use polyeurethene......... i thought possibly that you need to have some give somewhere?
