Online Manuals

I believe the MK1 model you have (4.1) is not covered in the online techy site. If you want a look anyway heres the link -

http://techdoc.toyota-europe.com/default.aspx

I did not have much luck myself, thier website 'support' said it was because I was trying to access them from an Apple Mac which seems improbable, especially as they are all in portable document format (pdf).

I did find an American Toyota Website that contained some useful technical info about the fuel injection and the like, but I am afraid I am typing this on my laptop from a Scottish train and do not have the details with me.

A Toyota dealer I was speaking to in London on Friday claimed that the 4.1 info was on the web and that he had accessed it via an Apple Mac.

when i search i get a lot of 1996-2000

didnt they bother with the 1994/95 cars then?

I don't know - I guess most of this is US stuff but if I could find a manual on the 96-2000 RAVs I would be happy!

The car was introduced to the USA market in 1996 and continued as the mk 4.1 until 2000. The USA '96 is pretty identical to the version lauched in early 1994 and sold in the UK from about June 1994. Some of the stuff is relevant beyond 2000. However the VVTi engine was introduced then.

During the 4.1 model life, changes were made like the intro of ABS braking; autos; air-conditioning. Almost all used the 3SFE engine which had been available in cars for some5+ years previously. I think a handful of Jap imports had the 3SGE engine.

The transmission is good for about 350-400bhp, altho the 3SFE output is 127bhp. The engine management system is archaic by todays comparisons and not tunable as such. The early models were also blessed by an immobiliser system which by now will have packed up; as did its manufacturer just months afetr supplying em in 1994.

just bought this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...N:IT&ih=025

obviously i wont burn it for anybody who wants it ;)

Is it specific to the RAV4 showing the gearbox etc or is it one of those generic ones that show common parts and procedures?

If it is a proper manual I will buy one.

Thanks for the links, I have looked at both sites mentioned and have asked if these can be read on an Apple Mac computer (so far, no replies).

Most of them are on this website (click technical articles) in pdf format if that helps;

http://www.autoshop101.com/

Many thanks Anchorman, this is exactly the site I found before and could not find my link to post to the earlier enquiry. Yes, this works on all computer platforms and contains some excellent information.

I shall bookmwrk it with more care this time!

I still find it rather remarkable that again I can be travelling across the land at 100mph and join in this list.

Thanks again,

George

this link got me to a guy selling dvd manuals on eBay

The cost was £4.99 + 99p postage . i have it now and it seems very good to me . It covers rav 4 96-2000 plus other cars

its about US cars but I think the info is relevant and at the price a real bargain

almost any info can be called up with a few clicks of the mouse

if the link is sold out go to his shop

I have no connection with the guy but it sure is a useful dvd

Thanks Marshall, but he tells me that the files on this CD (like the Toyota GB on-line information) cannot be read by an Apple Mac computer. Seems a bit strange, but he, like Toyota, are insistent and not very clear as to why.

If you have a copy of this CD, can you tell me what the file type or format of the files is?

Thanks,

George

Thanks again Marshall, yes it does help as it would be highly unlikely to run without some simulation making the Apple pretend to be one of Mr. Gates' products!

(If anyone else knows better, please feel free to educate me.)
