Hi everyoneI was thinking of buying a GT 4. Been reading everything I can find as I know nothing about Toyota full stop. I want to use the car mainly for track days but it will still have to be kept road legal. Its not a problem to make a few modifications although a understand standard car is lets say, quite nippy. I thought I would save alot of time and money if I asked the experts, thats you guys and girls I suppose, where is the best place to start and whats the better model to go for bearing in mind ive seen a 95 GT4 for £1500 or would the 5th Generation be a better option. Any advice or comments would be appreciated. Thanks

Gen 5 is quite heavy compared to Gen 6. It's referred to as the 1weight5 on the OC (from its Toyota code ST185).

Also headgasket won't take much extra power without replacement and stock power is considerably lower than the ST205s (Gen 6).

Personally I like the Gen 5 especially the C/S and R/C models which are closer in power to the Gen 6, but they're still less powerful and heavier than the Gen 6.

ST205 tends to suffer from expensive suspension replacement at a certain mileage. That shouldn't stop you buying, but factor it into the price unless the suspension is fine and there is proof that the 'Figure 8s' have been replaced.

ST205 is know as the Faff because owners can never stop faffing with them.

?? 95 gt 4 for 1500? this the 1 with the round lights? st 205? there must b something wrong with it for that price!! st185 would b cheaper but then again it does not have the power that the st205 has. yes the suspension can be a bit on the expensive side to fix but when it is fixed the handling is awesome. very each to get to the magic 300bhp mark too.
