Toyota Charges

My trc off and vsc lights are coming on after about 6 miles of driving. local toyota garage is charging £65 plus VAT. Is this a little expensive for a diagnostic check?

My local garage have the necessary equipment to run full diagnostics and charge about half what you were quoted from Mr T!

No just out a month. typical stuff like this happens once warrenty is gone

have you done anything to cause this , induction kit , hit anything , new tyres ?

no nothing, car is standard

try disconnecting the negative off the Battery for 1/2 hr

had to do thsi recently :$ , worked a treat , are you in limp mode? ie , 40 mph max , stuttering over 3k revs

those lights came on for me when all i did was replace the 2 front tyres (same size, dimensions etc).

tracking was checked as well and was fine.

seems like simply changing the front tyres is enough to make these lights come on.

i haven't bothered taking it in to toyota to get it looked at yet, as it doesn't seem to have had any affect to driving/handling.

i'm still under warranty, so have until december to get it looked at.

I had this problem when I purchased the car, it was 18 month old at the time. The dealer from where it came gave me a whole load of goodies hoping that I'd forget about it, I didn't.

Anyway, after a year I moved to another part of the land and was in having it serviced, at which point I questioned whether the dealer had seen the problem before. He said yes, and contrary to the outfit where I purchased from, he said we didn't muck about here, we just change the faulty ECU. That was a week before the warranty ran out and in the 18 months since the lights have never been back on.

Have the ECU checked out, if your dealer says nowt wrong it might be worth taking it to another perhaps...

Hope you get it sorted anyway as I know it's a pain in the teeth.

ive just had my front tyres replaced with goodyear eagle f1's 205 instead of 196 or whatever origional tyres are and my lights aint came on so not sure if you can count that out.

bit off topic but when i was getting my tyres fitted (i knew the tyre fitter) and was talking to him mentioning i needed a service and that toyota charge too much. anyways he explained a mechanic, marshbrook motors i pass everytime i go to work is a toyota/lexis specialist and used to work for toyota. hopefully he will be able to sort me out if i ever get any problems and maybe do services cheaper than toyota :)

Ok in back from MR T and iv had the diagnostic done. apparently there is a problem with the sensor giving th info on the position of the steering wheel to the traction control system. it could be a gap in the wire or the sensor itself. they told me it could take 2-5 hours to fix! :( , think il be gving it to a local garage to fix now i know whats wrong, would be half the price of toyota mechanic

remove and refit the connector from the sensor a couple of times - saved me a few times in the past when i thought it was a faulty sensor. sometimes its just a bit of oxidisation on the connecting points/pins........

could be. the guy there wants to check the lenght of the wire and the connection. shouldnt take 2 hours to track a wire and test the connections and sensor? charged £75 for the diagnostic by the way
