I'm A Rav Owner Now

After three years of driving a company car, I decide to get a Car whilst I changed Job's.

I got a 2001 GX D4d 5 door with 74000 on the clock in Black and silver in good condition.

I've been driving Vw's for the last three years but before then I'd had three Corolla Gti's so it is a welcome return to Toyota.

Having also recently had a young son I decided to get something bigger and have always liked the look of Ravs'. I wanted a three door but there wasn't enough room in them for all the kit the mrs has for the young one, and the shopping.

Anyway I am loving it, but do have one concern. It's giving me about 30mpg and that's with mainly motorway driving.

Is this what I should expect? or is there something I'll need to do?

30mpg on the motorway - you must be basing that on the (optimistic) on-board computer or driving slowly !!!

Welcome to the club

You are reading the average from the last 74k. Zero the mpg computer and after a while 10 - 20 miles it will settle to something more representative.

Can someone with a 4.2 just remind KG271/me how to do it?

Cheers

You need to press the "TRIP/NAVI" button until you get to mpg, then press and hold the "TRIP/NAVI" button until it resets

No, I reset the mileage when I put some fuel in drove until it ran out. I then calculated my MPG from that in UK Gallons.

I just wondered if that was the type of mileage I should be getting?

I had read somewhere that I sould get about 39.5 MPG. Is that unrealistic, or are there things I can do to improve the performance (without removing the two rear doors)

FUEL ECONOMY AND EMISSIONS

Urban mpg

31.7

Extra-Urban mpg

46.3

Combined mpg

39.8

CO2 g/km

190

5th gear at 70mph should give you mid to high 30s. If you drop the speed to 60 ish you can expect nearer 50mpg

I have the same vehicle and I get around 39mpg on mainly urban motoring.

I did get about 50mpg on a very leisurely drive i.e. 65 to 70mph once.

Don't want to sound pessimistic mate but read read the posts on here concerning the dual mass flywheel issues and then start saving!!

DMF failure is not inevitable. That is no comfort for those that have had it but nevertheless there are some high mileage ones out there that have never had one.
