Potential Celica Owner - Need Advice

Yo,

I've been thinking about a Celica and have an ok quote for a 1.8 140bhp model. I was wondering what the differences are between the 140bhp model and the T-sport? I've noticed there's optional packs aswell (Premium, sport etc..). Anything special about these?

Many thanks.

As a comprehensive reply to your questions would be quite lengthy, it would be easier if you view the wiki on TOC!.

Already done ;)

Was just wondering if anyone had driven both the 140 and the t-sport, to say how they feel of the two.

ive changed from a tsport corolla to a 140 celica truth is fair bit of difference in the accelaration purely cos theres a lift at 6200 revs with tsport engines

if you after a serious fun car then the tsport is the one to buy, i went for the 140 celica because i couldnt stop using the lift it can be very addictive

Haha, I can understand that :D

But do you still get quite a bit of power from the 140 or is it noticeably sluggish?

You'll get more than enough power from the celica. It is maybe a little sluggish in the low revs but in higher revs youl find that you smile like the cheshire cat. I suppose it depends which car you are either upgrading or downgrading from. The guys on this forum are really helpful so whether you get the t-sport or the 140 youve made the right decision.

Oh if you are getting a celica 140, make sure you dont get the pre facelift as i wouldnt wish the oil consumption problem on anyone lol. They fixed the issue when the released the facelift model in i think 2002/03.

i also heard that in the new facelift, the pistons were replaced with different ones made in america. Course api engines told me all this when i was coughing up 1850 quid for the engine so it might not be true.

Anytime for the advice by the way.

Just as a matter of interest, what car do you drive?

I currently drive a 2001 Yaris T-Sport. I was 18 when I got it and I've had it a year now. It's a great car, love it to bits. Going to be a hard choice whether to move to a Celica.

I've got the TSport 190 bhp 03 model - it has all the safety features that the 140 doesn't....

Vehicle stability control, traction control & brake assist

TSport branded alloys & 17" wheels with Pirelli PZeros.

Rear spoiler standard

The interior is class bespoke full (soft two tone) leather seats (rear seats as well!) auminium pedals and climate control air-con.

I haven't driven the 140 as I went straight for the top of the range for the safety features - and I have to say that it is superb - put it in third gear and it TAKES OFF....!

In JD Power's 2003 survey it beat the Audi TT, Ford Cougar/Puma, Hyundai Coupe, Mazda MX5 and Merc CLK/SLK.

Go for it...!

Regards

RP
