What Can You Do If Your Internet Connection Sucks?

I'm AOL... or Carphone Warehouse... whoever owns it now.

I used to have a 2meg connection, but then went for the upto 8meg connection.

Everything was great and I was getting a connection of 4mbp/s, it seems to have been a bit slower recently and just done a few tests.

Seems to be about 1.8mb p/s at the moment.

Seems to suck a little.

What are my options? I not long renewed the contract, but surely if I'm not happy with the speed etc?

Speak to retentions and tell them if the speed does not improve within two weeks you will go elsewhere.

They may get their finger out and sort the problem, if not try another ISP.

Just done a speed test on mine as you can see it is well down and I'm on 8mb, sometimes it is about 5/6mb but never gets to eight.

the bigest problem I had earlier on was the telephone cable to my house, it was 20 odd years old and had become brittle, once they replaced it the connection was a lot better.

Still though, for an 8mb connection, kinda below par.

Who on earth are Easynet, I thought I was with Sky Broadband, or is it Sky mascarading under someone elses title!!

With VM as you can see, I dont tend to download much and my pings In-game are fine. So I'm not really bothered.

You're not missing much.

Mine's supposed to be 20MB too then to GB wired LAN, but according to those results it's only 30% faster than yours.

it might not seem much, but being a technophobe ( at home anyway ) it's more than enough for what I need. Never had any problems with them either !

Thats quite surprising! I would have thought you should be around the 15mb mark atleast.

Never had any problems with VM (fingers crossed) and my house mates (student house) download alot...and I mean alot!

Upto 8meg? So they could give you 0.5meg and you couldn't do anything? Like I say, a few weeks back it was 3.8meg.

Well I just had a wee look on the AOL site and they suggested changing the MTU size to 1400 on the wireless router. It was at 1450. I changed it to 1400 and............

Now I'm happy! lol
