when the engine is cold to starting it is a struggle but possible, if the engine has been running , and i have to stop and restart soon after the engine will not fire up, the starter motor is turning i can hear it, but it seem that no fuel gets through?

ok noted

1-when the engine was last serviced? 2- what was the works list performed?

3- check with purity of fine fuel filter before HP fuel injection pump; 4- check with primer fillter in fuel tank;

please check with the above and come back

Problem solved!!!

Swap out the starter motor and problem solved, the starter must have been faulty from purchase, the new starter is perfect!

it did !!! very odd fault, id imagine alot of people think because the starter is turning the engine it must be ok ,

If anyone else has this fault i would start looking at the starter motor, even the sound of the new unit is completly differant.

  • 2 weeks later...

I had exactly the same problem and symptoms, and it was indeed the starter motor. Seems very common on 03- Avensis models.
