Starting And Idling Problems When Hot

Hi All,

I need some help. I have just rebuilt my Celica GT4 ST205 3S-GTE engine with forged pistons, rods, HKS cams polished crank and ARP hardware. I am still using standard management to run it in then shortly I have a Apexi PFC to be installed and mapped.

At the moment I have a problem of once the engine is up to running temp, switched off and left for a couple of minutes it then wont start until it is turned over 100 times. It usually starts as the Battery is about to give up.

Also once up to running temp it doesn't like idling, it idles at about 500 rpm, but rarely at 800 - 850 rpm which I believe it is meant to.

Because I am running HKS cams I was expecting it to be a little lumpy on idle but Have come to the conclusion it should not be this lumpy! When driving it feels great there is hardly no lag what so ever, just wants to pull and pull. I am only running 264 cams on standard Toyota timings.

As I have a EVC 5 boost controller I can also check it is making good vacuum, which it is so its not like I have left a vacuum hose disconnected!

When starting from cold it starts on the button and idles perfect on choke, it seems to be as something in the engine bay gets hotter (such as a sensor maybe) it starts to break down and gives a dodgy reading.

Anyone got any ideas what I could check???

Thanks

is this only since it's been build?

could be the idle control, fingures crossed it's that simple :)

Yes this is only happening since the rebuild.

Is there anyway I could check the idle control valve is working properly?
