Philips X-treme Power +80% bulbs. These have had great reviews in lots of tests and do exactly what they say on the tin. Prices range from about £25 to £30.

I've got the H4 ones in my MR2 but I think your car has different bulbs for dipped and main beam, so if you want to improve both you'll need two different sets of bulbs and it's possible the +80 isn't available for your main beam. Do you need to improve the power of both, or is it just one or the other that you're having problems with?

Try carbulbs.com or one of the many other similar sites to find out exactly what you need for your car.

The Avensis is well known for poor headlights and have had problems with the bulbs melting in the holders making it necessary to change the complete headlight .

A modified holder made of metal was made by Toyota to over come this problem I believe !!

Whether Toyota extended the warranty on the headlight holders I cannot quite remember but a search on the forum as poor headlights has come up a lot

It is not just a case of slipping a new bulb in I believe the bumper has to come off

Yes they have.I had this problem.

If the car is less than five years old and less than a 100,000 miles,Toyota will change the head lights FOC.

The parents have the 04 avensis model and they had the exact same complaint about the headlights. They just went about upgrading the bulbs (not sure of brand or anything sorry) and it seems alot better and clearer now
