Hi everyone,

After my Mgf head gasket went for the second time in 2.5 years! Thanks Rover for not recalling them! Its time for a change :D

So im looking at getting a gen7 Celica but this thing with oil problems is putting me off :(

Has it only affected the 140 or both engines?

Thanks :)

I've seen one or two reports of problems with the 190 on here, but so few that they're almost certainly unrelated to the large numbers of problems that are reported for the 140.

I think it's safe to say that the chances of you having an oil problem with the 190 is quite low if you look after the car. Of course any car can go wrong if service schedules are ignored.

The 190 has different pistons, cylinder liners and of course a completely different head. The latter is quite a complex piece of kit, so problems could develop in that area. For the most part these seem to be related to the easily replaced lift bolts.

the oil problem appears to have been addressed and sorted with facelift models ......52 reg onwards

i have a 04 model had her 3 mths hasnt used a drop of oil

long as you keep the service history up at main dealers they replace short motors up to 7 years old or 100000 miles. 60 n 70 k services quite dear but beatspayin for newengine if u ask me
