Air Filter Housing

We have had a 2005 Yaris for 15 months. Whilst driving it away from a recent service, we noticed a coubik but not especially metallic rattling vibration from the engine compartment when pulling away/lowish speeds.

We took it back and the garage said Air Filter Housing is loose, needs to be replaced. I thought that sounds cheap enough. Garage said over £300!

Is all this plausible? With the sudden onset of the rattle, is it likely to have been bashed out of tightnesswhilst in garage?

Sounds unlikely. I would put up with the rattle or see if I could fix it myself!

I have had a similar problem with my 1.3 yaris. Me and a mechanic mate of mine had a look and thought it was the airbox, but after a little bit of fiddling it turned out to be the actual air pipe that runs into the airbox. have a bit of a play around wih that first before replacing the whole airbox. It comes out of both connections with a bit of force.

Strange you didn't have the rattle before the service, and the airbox has suddenly 'come loose' after the service and needs a £300 replacement! It's a cheap piece of plastic that either needs all the screws tightening up and the pipes fitting properly, or if it's broken then demand a new replacement from the garage that serviced it - sounds like it might have been broken in the service, if it was broken before they should've spotted it and recommended a replacement when you picked the car up.
