i have had a t180 for a week now and one thing bothering me. If i have the audio loud and satnav is giving voice commands it does not mute the audio and the satnav voice guidence comes from driver door speaker only. i can not here what is said clearly and it is confusing with both going at once.

Is this normal.

Yep, sorry to say it is normal. Sat Nav instructions from driver's door speaker.

Off hand, I can't remember if there is a way to alter the relative volumes - I'll have a play later.

Can't say I've ever found it a problem, but then I generally don't have the radio/cd up high. Maybe play around with the audio left/right balance a bit? - but probably not a satisfactory solution.

EDIT: No, can't seem to find anything, only the adaptive volume settings to increase audio volume with vehicle speed.

Remember however, if you missed the last voice command, you can always get the unit to repeat it, by pressing the map/voice button (if I remember correctly). That might help perhaps?

Hi I've just had a look at my sat-nav and if you press MENU button and then VOLUME on the touch screen you can increase or decease volume from 1 - 7 I have mine set at 5

This information is in page 69 of your manual.

I hope this helps you.

Jim.

Well spotted Jim, I should have RTFM. I'd got it into my head that those levels were adjustments for the adaptive volume setting as the control for that is on the same screen.

Slightly off topic - but regarding RTFM: I bought my RAV4 T180 at the start of May 2008 and I got manuals for the SatNav, etc., but never got a proper "RAV4" manual. There was a "quick start" pamphlet telling the basics of the dashboard controls, but nothing like a proper car manual. My old Mazda 6 4WD had a thick tome telling me everything from instrumentation to jacking points. Is there an equivalent tome for the RAV4 T180 which I haven't been given?

Yes. I have an XT4 for which the hand book covers T180. It is a thick and fairly detailed one like the Mazda one you describe. If they try to charge you keep in mind that they sell them on eBay from time to time (I don't know if your T180 was new or if the previous owner lost the book).
