Just come back from the local toyota dealership had the 50 k service done at 109 quid, asked them to replace the pollen filter also get rid of that musty smell from the aircon. Had them check out the whining sound coming from passenger side rear thought it was the wheel bearing it wasnt it was the break caliper catchin so they adjusted that and place a new pad with it.

Well i am now 322 quid lighter and i only went in for a interim service  . Phew roll on pay day.

Car is as good as new now :D :yahoo:

Fast approaching my 40k service. Something like 38855! Mr T has quoted me £209.

I'll have to get it done soon as I missed my 30k..... :/ (I did it myself though!!) Just means no stamp.

I was looking at the service book the other day and both the Minor and Major seem to be the same work items i.e oil change always (Fair Enough ) and an air filter if required (Not with Typhoon  ), the additional jobs on the major are check and adjust if neccasary on a fairly small list of items, seems like a con to me.

So:

Mine is going to my local garage with my choice of oil in the boot inc Filter and instructions to check everyhing on Mr T's list price inc oil will be £100 less than Mr T, and the local Garage won't have the YTS lad on it.

Ok if it was still in warranty i would probably send it to Mr T but as its not i wont.

and a lot of money off its value! i do mine myself but still take it to a garage to get the book stamped. g/box oil is due changing on a 40k - make sure its done, Toyota wont do it. when i had my 40k done at me mates Garage he rang the local Toyota dealer to make sure i had supplied the correct viscosity of G/box oil - Lindops reply was why are you changing the g/box oil - we never bother. Waynes reply was we follow customers instructions and service requirements - he was amazed at Lindops attitude, i wasnt! My local independant is more expensive than a service at Toyota (i get a very healthy discount) but they never get complaints and always go the extra mile - not just with people they know. Our Wayne even won an award of trading standards for his work and honesty

just been quoted £195 ish for 40,000miles service at ron brooks which isn't to bad as they change the brake fluid at this service. but they want to charge £50.30 for the M.O.T at the same time, local garage charges £40 for M.O.T, would have thought it would have been cheaper at dealers as car would have had some of the checks done at the service. spoken to the service manager about this but it's policy to charge the maximum, but you get free retest if it fails, even if you have repairs done elsewhere. can get 10% with loyalty card, no discount for T.O.C members though, but still think i'm paying twice for some of the work or is it just me ?

also in his reply by e-mail he states " the brake fluid changing operation does not involve automatic checking of the brake condition,it is a draining and replenishment procedure that can be carried out( if necessary ) without removing the wheels. any advice on this ?

they dont need to take the wheels of to do b/fluid change - joys of having a ramp! they should change the coolant and g/box oil as well.......... is your local garage good? no reason not to take it there? i always take my own fluids as well. what Toyota will charge you for semi you can get decent fully synthetic for the same money.......

They change the brake fluid at 40k?!!!!!

I just had my 40k as said above, cost £215 and they advised me my brake fluid will be 2 years old in Sept, so to I want to pay £39 to change it now!

Is it included in the 40k service because they didn't do it on mine?

Wilber is on about a 40K service. the fluid should have been done on the 40K - its in the labour cost for a 40K service? then you get charged for fluid. this is why i wouldnt bother having a service at Toyota. i take to me mates garage and he asks whats to be done. wouldnt miss brake fluid change - can be very costly later down the line. as my warranty runs out in a few weeks the only thing i will have done at service is an oil change so i can have my book stamped - do the rest at home and keep the reciepts

Yes I just had the 40k service, my car is 18 months old '56' plate and I have done 40,500 miles now.

So Toyota should have change the 40k brake fluid on my car, is there anywhere that tells you exactly what is included in the service?

my mistake - its every 2 years. i do 10k a year in the T Sport so thats were the confusion came from. everything else is milage/years - which ever is sooner but brake fluid is years only. Did they change the g/box oil and coolant? just noticed - the charcoal canister should be changed every 2 years/30k............ had my 30k done at Toyota, that was never changed! its in the begining of your service record.

Smoftah, not wanting to be sarcastic, check your invoice/receipt vs the Health & Safety Service Schedule pages (1-3 in mine) of your service book it shows brake fluid as an Inspection on both the intermediate and major services so unless specified on your receipt assume it hasn't been done.

Just checked them, it says 'brake fluid inspected and still clear, customer advised to change fluid in September '08'

They did not change the coolant or gearbox oil either, I was not advised about any of that :(

Cheers for the advice ae102 and cabcurtains

think it's a long life coolant in the engine, not sure on gearbox oil change time, is the engine oil in the t sport fully or semi synthetic ? good customer relations and service at ron brooks, mine is now out of warranty, 4 years old but only done 32000 miles. local garage very good also undecided where to go for service ?
