Hi all

Please help me to identify function of two large patches on back doors of brand new Auris 1.6 VVT-i SOL.

Can anyone with same model of Auris confirm that this is normal delivery of new car?

Should I be worried about this?

TIA

I would not be worried. Those are stone chip guards. a kind of protective film applied to the parts of the car prone to stone chips coming of the wheels...

Welcome to TOC and enjoy your Auris....

Yes welcome to the Club.

I don't have an Auris but have the self same transparent film in the same places on my E12 Corolla. I recall a thread or two about this at the time but, as everyone else has said, nothing to worry about. They are there to help give the car an added bit of protection :)

i remove them parts from the car - after a while the edging starts to come off and dirt adhere's to the adhesive. car looks far tidier without them.

Not a good idea to remove them.......................Toyota have placed them there as this is a most vulnerable bit for stone chips.................Removing them could cause you a problem if you tried to make a claim on the paintwork/anti corrosion warranty.

On my previous Yaris when the edges lifted slightly my Toyota Dealer replaced them under warranty.

A similar after market item (Manufactured by 3M's) is available to fit the leading edge of the bonnet/front wing area. Quite a lot of owners of luxury and upmarket cars have this fitted to protect the paintwork.

they aint to stop stone chips - look where they place them. to stop scuffing from careless peeps getting in and out. if they where to protect vunerable areas would the door mirrors not have it on. how will removing them void your warranty and cause corrosion? not a mark on me T Sport where i removed them and looks far neater now. just be careful when removing and clean residue with some tar remove then polish to protect

You must have been very lucky not to have got any stone chips in these vulnerable places. I have seen loads of Toyotas with chips in those areas

Polish alone will not protect against stone chips.

Regarding warranty.............Toyota put the clear guards there to protect the bodywork...........If you remove them and subsequently submit a claim under the paintwork or anti corrosion warranty, it could be seen to be void as you have removed the protection.

It really comes down to personal choice. I personally think that they are discreet enough to hardly notice and they do the job.

That is why the aforementioned 3M's kits for luxury and upmarket cars sell so well.............they like to protect their cars as I do.
