Hello to all

Avensis 2000 1.8VVTi 1ZZ-FE

A crank bigend knock is the reason for my removing the engine.

Firstly, will the engine come out with out removing the gearbox.

secondly, I have removed 2 long bolts from the fluid power steering pump, but it is still solid. I have had another look today and I can't see any other bolts.

Thirdly, is it usuall for the drivers side inner CV joint to get stuck on the shaft bolted to the rear of the engine.

I have had lots of Estima's over the years, but this is all new to me.

Help from somebody who has already been in the position I am in now, would be greatly appreciated.

The engine 'should' come out without removing the 'box but its usually easier to drop the subframe then drop the whole engine/box in one.

The P/S pump is only held in with the 2 bolts you have removed, it is probably tight due to the metal spacers on the timing chain cover which have pushed against the pump fixings. Just use a big screwdriver or pry bar and the pump will come off fine.

Not too sure what you are getting at ref the inner CV and a 'shaft' on rear of engine. Do you mean the bearing carrier bolted onto the block? If so, just remove the bolts and use a chisel to split the joint. The shaft will come out pretty easy after.

Hi Mart

A big thanks for your advice. Having looked at it now, I sould have just removed the lot. It presume the wireing loom unplugs from the bulk head. It took ages to unhook the loom from the engine.

I will pursue with my original course now I have got this far.

My experiance is with Estima's and Scenics, so this is a learning curve for me.

I was an engine machinist for 15 years and ran a cylinder head business for 9 years, so spannering is not my trained proffesion.

Thaks again for passing on your knowledge.

James.
