I Don't Want To Know The Answer!

Would anyone who reads this post, stop for a moment & do a rough calculation in their heads.

How much do you spend per week on Beer, Cigs, Meals out, Make up, Hair dos/cuts etc, etc ? In other words, spoiling yourself.

I DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE ANSWER.

Why , though, have only 3 people, to my knowledge, come forward to support Em, a well known & loved member of our Club/family/community in her bid to do something to help others ?

I know that we are besieged daily by worthy causes, but this is one of our own , getting up off her Axxe  to do something to benefit others.

Her original post was "Once, twice, three times a racer" & I have bumped it to refresh everyone's memory.

If a lot of people give a little, it will amount to a lot, & encourage her.

I will tell you why and that is that some of us just can't afford it. (Meaning me) and whom ever else just cant afford it on TOC. I don't have the money to spoil my self....the little money I do have is to survive!

So don't go making me feel guilty for not putting my hand in my pocket to support a cause that I do not believe is alllll that worthy to begin with and at the same time I cant justify in giving my funds too. I need to look after me and mine right now.

The above may sound harsh to some and yet justifiable to others....I am not wanting to cause any arguments. Just be honest!

I lost my Mum to cancer...it took her in less than 6 months from diagnosis to death ... and no amount of money, research, training, machines could have saved her.

I support Em all the way and wish her luck. But i wont be handing over any money.

I gave my reply in the original thread.

I'm sorry Bizarra but your approach is an instant 'turn off' and I have to say that you have not done Em any favours

spent 610.46 Turkish Lira last week on meals and taxis plus about £2000 on mortage and bills

dont really like it when people are pressured to donate money,

I get this all the time a work, last time I was pressured to donate £15 to five different people for the same event

as Asha say some people cant afford it, if people dont want to donate then they shouldn't have to

Oops  . Seem to have put that badly

Didn't intend to pressurise anyone & I do realise that money is short :crybaby:

My intention was to remind people of Em's original post & give them a nudge.

Apologies to anyone who has taken it the wrong way & to Em, if indeed I "have not done her any favours"

Open mouth , insert both feet :crybaby:

As I've said, I'll be donating closer to the event. I'm about to take on a mahoosive mortgage & have absolutely no idea how much money I'm going to have to my name once I've started paying it. With the event not taking place for the time being it gives me a bit of time for things to settle down so I'm going to take advantage of that. For the time being I have no idea how much money (if any) I'll have left over to spoil myself with. Assuming I do still have a few quid to spend on myself & decide give some of it to a very worthwhile cause, it will be because I feel it's the right thing to do & wont be because I've been guilt tripped into doing so by another member on a car forum

i do agree that cancer is a big killer, my dad died of it 2 weeks ago :(

However People should give if they want to, not just because they feel guilty for not giving,

everyone has their own opinions of who deserves what.

For example i do not give to childrens chairtys, its my choice.

Asha it is a worthy cause, through people kindly giving, people like me are still alive,

i was treated with 2 of the most upto date drugs Herceptin & Arimidex,

If they did not have the funding to test those drugs, they would not have been made available for me.

[ i do think that the goverment should be paying instead of people like Em having to do charity runs ]

i will be sending you a donation Em nearer the day

Very sorry to hear about your Dad, Love. You have my deepest sympathy & prayers @ this sad time. :group-cuddles:

I think people misunderstood what I was trying to do. All I wanted was for them to stop & think. If then, they felt that they could help & wanted to, then do it. If they couldn't/didn't want to or were giving elsewhere, fair enough. I wasn't trying to bully or guilt trip anyone into contributing.

That's exactly why I'm planning to someday run the marathon for Cancer Research UK. While I completely understand Asha's way of thinking & have unreserved sympathy for anyone who has lost somebody due to this terrible disease, it is because of charities like this that more people are surviving that otherwise wouldn't have done so

Blinkin eck!

Admittedly I have been rather disappointed at the lack of support (not that I ever made this public) but hey, everyone is finding it tough right now, myself included and I thank those who have donated and those who have promised to do so, it means a lot to me and to the charity.

It's not about "hounding people for money" as Hou so eloquently put it and I'd hate to think that people thought that - I lost my Grandmother in 2006 and I wish every day she were here to advise me and help me.... but she isnt and if she'd died a natural old-age death I'd not be so passionate about this cause, because it took something amazing away from me and it will continue to do so until a proper cure is found. It'll never bring her back, but it might stop my Mum, my Dad, my siblings or my friends from suffering in such a way. Thats worth more than any amount of money.

Thanks to those who have and are continuing to support me. It's appreciated.

I respect this utterly, and can respect anyone that does something out of their own resources for free for a charitable end. God bless you! (not that I believe in god like)

Your effort no doubt isn't. Most charities and their ad campaigns seem to diverge from your way of thinking tho

Thats worth more than any amount of money.

Not to the business men who make a packet of pills cost 12 grand it isnt... and herein lies the problem. Treatment may be found that manages symptoms, and it'll cost far more than our rubbish health system can afford. Normal and poor ppl will basically die without this great treatment. The rich, the well off, the influential, the familly of the hospital staff will likely be A OK as its within their reach. I can tell quite a few stories about cancer that do not have happy endings and effectively boil down to people being denied effective treatment because they couldn't stump up the extortionate cost of the meds.... so.... I guess that it wont help a lot of people even if the charity did find a cure....

i personally think the government should be paying for funding and research into diseases and disabilities, especially ones as common as cancer.

i respect and greatly admire people who go out of their way to raise money for charitys but really, what do we pay taxes for?

our tax and national insurance money goes towards housing, food, cars , mobile phones, NHS treatment and stuff for people who arn't actually suppose to be in this country. (im not the least bit racist and predujist.)

i have M.E. its a disability. alot of doctors will not accept it as a disability, but tens of thousands of people suffer from it.

i dont see why i should have to fork out my hard earned money to join an association dedicated to the condition just to find out a little bit about it. i dont see why i have to pay out more money to buy information leaflets just to find out a little bit on how to manage my condition... but i do it because its the only way.

the government should be funding research into this and providing training for doctors and designated specialists to help us (M.E sufferers) come to terms with, deal with and manage our conditions. or even research into finding a cure for this so far uncurable disability. ( a little off topic, i know)

The bottom line is, the government should be funding treatments and research into diseases like cancer and lukemia and things like that.

i have donated, and i also regularly donate to great ormond street. however, i still think the government should do more.

xx

Great cause! Cancer research is the only charity group that I'd ever consider donating to.

Although for the first time, in the history of the world and all Time, I agree with Vmail.

To be fair though, I'm not pressuring people to donate.

I posted one thread, which someone else has been kindly bumping on my behalf and I sent one email out to a few friends - I've not hounded anyone for money so to say people are being "pressured" is quite frankly rather daft!
