Verso Veering Left Yet Aligned Perfectly

Hi,

Does anyone know if there are any service bulletins or notices regarding the Toyota Verso pulling, or veering, to the left?

I seem to recall seeing a forum posting (perhaps not here?) regarding one. I think the advice was for dealers to just align the wheels a bit to the right to compensate.

Any links/URLs or tips would be appreciated.

Background: mine veers left on several straight roads; tyre pressure checked and correct; Toyota even checked alignment and found it correct. When Toyota replaced my front tyres they said the old ones were worn unevenly -- the veering to the left became more pronounced after the new tyres were fitted.

Thanks,

~Andrew~

See if your dealer will let you try the same road in a different Verso. If it behaves the same as yours it could be the road camber, if it doesn't you know it can be fixed.

As this problem happened after fitting new tyres I suggest you swap over the front wheels, left to right and vice versa.

It is sometimes the case that during the manufacturing of a tyre that the tread pattern has been cut slightly off spec and if two tyres of the same type but cut differently are fitted to the same axle there will be a tendancy for the car to pull to one direction more than the other. By changing over the wheels one of two things may happen.

1. The car will no longer pull to one side.

2. The car will pull in the other direction and if this is the case you should go back to the tyre fitter and explain the situation. If they are a reputable firm the will know about this problem.

There was a discussion on this topic earlier in the year so I suggest you search under 'alignment'. Each time that I am back in the UK I have to put up with the car pulling over to the left. As this does not happen In France , Spain or Germany I have concluded that it is caused by the chamber of our roads.

My T180 has always done it. There's no extra wear or anything, so I think its how they're set up. You get used to it. My Focus wasn't as bad, and the Aygo dosen't do it at all.

My 2.2 D4D Sr Verso pulled to the left from delivery. They checked the alignment and all was ok so they swapped the tyres over and this almost sorted the problem out. However when they did this they found the steering wheel out of alignment ????? So had to reset that to. I understand about the tyres being cut slightly off speck but so many people are having this problem and not just new cars either. Thats a lot of bad tyres if it is the case and over many years. I think its a car manufacturing issue of sorts. My car has just started to pull the otherway a little know?? Only done 3500 miles.

Good luck in sorting yours out.

I posted earlier in this thread and I would just like to let you all know how I found out about this issue and the reason behind it.

About thirty odd years ago I had this problem after having new tyres fitted and it was a friend of mine who worked for Uniroyal Tyres at the time who told me to swap over my front wheels which cured the problem. He then explained the technicalities which caused this issue and had said that changing over the wheels usually solves the problem but if it didn't then insist that the supplier replaces the tyres with another set otherwise they will wear out in no time at all.

  • 1 month later...

Update: I paid for a full alignment at the Basingstoke dealer and now it doesn't pull left -- I have no idea what was different in this re-alignment vs the one they did before (and which said there was no problem, when there clearly was).

If anything, on some sections of the M3, I now feel it pull ever so slightly to the right...but that I will put down to the lay of the land...

This is exactly what I've also found out. Here in Belgium it is to the right...
