hello all,

I'm new to this so forgive me a silly question or three...

i currently own a gen6 celica with cloth interior and have been offered a set of leather seats (front and rear) off a gen 7 model at a nice price...

does anyone out there know if they'll fit without too much hassle or should i scrap the idea straight away??

Thanks in advance,

Rich

Gen 7 seats will fit in to the Gen 6 with some modifications.

Gen 7 rear uprights just bold onto the hinges, the lower bench section will leave about a 1" gap at the edges.

You then need to cut off the Gen 6 mounting brackets off the runners and weld them onto the Gen 7 seat runners.

I did a write-up of how to do this on www.celica-club.co.uk.

Thanking you both muchly, i was hoping not to have to cut and weld....but a necessary evil it is.

pics (or tears) to follow when i get round to it.

Thanks again,

Rich

  • 3 weeks later...

And so it was, gen 7 full black leather interior aquired for £150 with some haggling, the leather was dry but it's come up a treat with, ahem, me mrs's cocoa butter oil for dry skin!! not sure what they go for? is this near the mark?

Had a good gander at bens write up (thanks), mig welder and a bored mate were obtained for the day.

Glad i had a good supply of drill bits as the brackets were a nightmare to get off.

Rear benches went in in a matter of minutes, the fronts were a good 5 hour job for the pair (with a steady supply of stella).

Now really glad i took the time to do the job They've totally changed the interior look and make it a much more pleasant place to be.

List of mods so far..

The full gen 7 leather interior (obviously)

Blue dash, ashtray and drivers side window switch leds.

Rear spoiler from a gen 6 facelift.

17" bsa 5 spoke alloys.

Shortshifter from a gen 7 (think they're the same as it happens).

Sunstrip. (yeah, i know, but theres no tint on the f/f windscreen)

Momo millenium steering wheel with quick release system mounted on a cut n shortened boss. (had one car lifted a few years back, having me steering wheel in the house at night is good karma).

Things on the "to-do" list..

Lowering kit (can only find cheap coilovers at the moment, looking for some trd springs).

Decat pipe, (anyone know what, if any difference it'll make??)

Pair of gt sideskirts.

I'm sure thing's will crop up, pics to follow shortly.

Thanks again to ben for the advice.

If anyones got any input on what i've done or am intending to do it's all appreciated.

Cheers,

Rich :)
