Hi Guys

Will need some new tyres on the front of my Rav 4.3 2.2d :(

Currently got Yoko Geolanders 225-65x17 fitted

Looking for some ideas/suppliers as previous tyre post seems to have drifted off topic talking about girls

Kingo have you got some prices deals on the go

Did think perhaps using spare and buy one new tyre to match existing ones and retaining the best of the fronts for spare otherwise the new spare will never get used.

As you know we never get punctures in Ravs XTs only T180's suffer those

Incidentally the wear pattern is on the inner and outter edges (we have a lot of roundabouts in Telford which does scub tyres having said that I think they need more air pressure to get the wear more even.

I blame the wife anyway as she is always nicking the Rav but never refuels or checks oil tyres lights.

If you are just going to get 2 new tyres as the fronts are worn out, put the new ones ON THE BACK and move the current back ones to the front

Makes sense to bring the spare into play - totally wasted otherwise.

sorry wouldnt touch remoulds and as for tyres rated higher than 70mph its important to remember to fit the speed rating recommended by toyota if you fit a lower rating and have a crash your insurance company my say that you have fitted tyres that dont meet the manufacturers specification. They will class that as an undeclared modification and refuse to pay out, then your cheap tyres will have cost you a fortune. :(

For what it's worth, I don't think there's any substitute for a quick surf or even an old fashion ring round the tyre dealers to find the best bargain. This is particularly so if you are flexible about your choice of brand. You ought to get a discount for two tyres and also negotiate free fitting, valves and balancing. I'd also totally agree with Hoovie about the spare. There seems to me to be little point in having a lovely brand new tyre on the back. If you look on it as an upmarket "get you home" wheel, you can use the best of the ones you're replacing as the spare. You only save the cost of the tyre once, of course, so the next time you're in the market for tyres, you really are replacing on a one-for-one basis

BTW, I think it's Hoovies fault the last thread went :offtopic: thanks to his video that made the point about putting the new tyres on the back. He took a few of us with him, needless to say

I promise not to do that again, at least until the next time it happens

Did someone mention "Girls" Coz if they did I think I missed that thread for some obscure reason :(

 @ "Honks like a pig".............Reminds me of the Lassie theme in Porkys......:D:

Anyway.....Back on thread. We often have deals on tyres but at £95 per corner we cant get anywhere near that price. Tyre pricing is a bit like speculating on the stock market, the prices change daily  buy buy buy I say

Kingo

Staying on topic ....

Is there not a national tyres supplier who would be willing to provide a TOC discount to club members?? After all, we all need new tyres at some time - I will be buying either 3 new bridgestones duellers (got a virtually new spare that will be press-ganged into work) or set of 4 others in next couple of months myself.

I only use Ian at Autoimage in Glasgow and I get tyres that do the job....and never pay anywhere near the silly money you guys fork out. And remember, the number 1 is being thrashed a helluva lot more than any other RAV in the UK. And thats for all the wheels I have - including the 2 ton caravan and transporter trailer; minibus etc. He fits them and balances them and knows more about wheels and tyres than any goon in a common tyre shop. From memory, the regular RAV tyre I bought was less than £65. I believe he has an outlet in Edinburgh too. Even the alloys he sells are a damn good price.

And yes my insurance company know of all the mods on the 2 RAVs I have. Didn't seem to have any problem over the alloys and tyres. It did take them a day to figure out the turbo engine swap but still came back with an excellent quote! A decent underwriter will know his business - and the part that tyres play. And I still wait to see a RAV going over 70 on a motorway.

Remoulds- they're good for landrovers by the way.

I find the RAV4 gets over the ton very easily (too easily! - hence my having to fill up at under 260 miles), but I am sticking to well withing the limits now with price of the golden nectar
