Front Noise

Hi i seem to have a strange noise on my rav when i brake at slow speeds. it seems to groan i have checked the caliper and brake pads, there fine, tried to check for free play cant see anything. checked the torque of the wheel nuts. sprayed the rubber bushes with rubber lubricante. no change. has anyone else had this problem and got it sorted.

There is a phenomonon called "creep groan" which is a stick/slip situation between the pads and the disc. You can get it if you stop on a steep downhill slope and allow the vehicle to creep forward by releasing the brakes. It usually goes with a brownish residue from resin that can be seen on the disc and in fact is not really a problem - more of an annoyance. If it is that (and its hard to be sure without hearing it) go out and get the brakes really hot by repeated stops in a safe manner. Do not drag the brakes. Then immediately after just drive it normally for half a mile or so making sure that you end up in a place with junctions or other reasons to stop. You will initially carbonise the surface residue and then remove it with the normal stops. If you are a light duty brake person it will come back with time.

Yuv run oer a Rangers supporter. Dinna worry as it happens up here aw the time. They're bstrds fur groaning.- wimps. Jist extricate the said blue covered body frae the space atween the petrol tank an the rear axle an ye'll be fine. Mind and remove the traffic cone frae the front suspension as weel which yud hae picked up aifter running the chanter oer.
