Hi everyone, were new to this forum. I currently own a Hilux surf 3.0 td ssrx and have just bought my girlfriend a 1980 1600cc Carina which we hope to get a lot of enjoyment out of. The car is in bronze with around 47000 on the clock and is all original and quite clean. Not sure if we will keep it 100 percent original or maybe change a few things to make it more user friendly as yet. Here's a couple of quick pictures, let us know what you think of it. Have been thinking, would anyone have any ideas on what sort of wheels would do this car justice. Also were experiencing problems with insurance, my girlfriends been driving for under a year and quotes were getting are silly. The company she was with won't insure her on it as it's over 20 years old, tho she was driving my 1987 nissan sunny around with a policy with them at the time I bought the carina... Any ideas please let us know. Thanks

Hi,

love the car ! Great to see the older models still being looked after.

With regards to the insurance, it's certainly old enough to qualify for classic insurance.

There's surely plenty of places that will quote and insure for a car of this age. How many old MGs, Jags, Triumphs etc do you see on the road - they all manage to get insured no problem.

Unfortunately, my girlfriend being quite petite is not getting on with the car so I'm going to have to get her something more modern with powersteering etc. Looking for £650, has tax till end of september and Mot till March 2009, car was owned by elderly couple from new and passed on to family decorator when husband died, decorator kept it garaged at the elderly persons house until the lady died and couldn't be kept there anymore, so had to be sold. Car was used to run into local town to collect pension!!...

First of all never sell to anyone who values it!! ...it's probably worth more. You could try the Datman forum, they're pretty knowledgable on all things old and jap.
