Sub Woofer

Hi, Does anyone here know how to install the Toyota branded sub woofer to a Yaris at all?

I have got one off eBay but have no wiring instructions.

Also, the wiring has no plug on one of the ends, the unit end is there but the bit that would connect it to the audio system appears to be cut off, unless they get scotchlocked, which I thought unlikely!

In addition, does anyone know what the two 'dials' near the connecting plug do? They are rotary dials, which you probably use a small tool or a screwdriver, to adjust. One say's High cut, the other say's Gain.

I would assume they alter the sound/volume but am not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks, Gar. B)

Hi Gar,

I'm not at all familiar with the sub unit but the rotary dials would be adjusted on installation, as you say using a small jewellers screwdriver or similar.

The high cut control is part of the active crossover and sets the cut-off point of the high frequencies. As regards a sub woofer, high frequencies would probably cover the range anywhere from 20Hz (really really low v*mit inducing sub-bass) to about 250Hz (nasaly, head-cold sounding booming) and you would normally set this control so the sub woofer takes over bass duties from more or less where your standard installed Speakers leave off, say between 70Hz and 50Hz or so. If there are no marks on the dial on the sub woofer indicating what the frequencies are, then trial and error to find what sounds 'best' for the type of music you listen to will work just as well. Leave it mid-way to begin with if in doubt.

The gain control basically sets the volume of the sub woofer and lets you balance the sound so that it doesn't overpower the standard installation. If there are any marks on the gain dial, try setting it at '0' to begin with (or zero gain, meaning the volume is neither reduced nor amplified) but if there are no marks then leave it mid-way as a starting point.

I'm sorry I can't help with any of the other issues, I'm totally unfamiliar with this unit but there may be someone here who is.

Hope this helps :)

Hi, These replies have been quite helpful, however, the harness I have has had the audio end plug removed, to make it easier for the seller to extract from thier car!

Do you know if the plug is available from anywhere at all? Or does anyone know what wires attach where?

Also, although I recon the installation will be the same or similar, I have a different Sub from this. Mine looks like a single speaker in a more metallic box, perhaps more commonly seen on an MR2 or something.

It IS an official Toyota part and was supplied and fitted by a Toyota dealer to the previous Yaris owner. I am hoping it is a bit better than the illustrated one.
