Pinking under load...

When pulling away or accelerating up hills, the engine makes a tinny rattly sort of jingling noise, and from my past experience - that sounds like pinking! These cars are supposed to have engine management on them, and they should have knock sensors and vacuum sensors to combat this. I am at a loss to know where to start on this one - help!

The noise turned out to be an incorrectly fitted tensioner wheel for the aircon compressor. It had been fitted on the wrong way round meaning that you couldn't tighten the spindle fully. I re-fitted it properly, and it now runs quietly.
