Fuel Saving

Hi Everyone,

I drive a 1.0 Yaris Blue which I love, currently it standard bar the head unit and Speakers all round being changed. I rarely have any back seat passengers and have been wondering about how to save even more fuel from the little engine, it doesn't really use a whole lot of fuel, but:

If it was to remove the rear seats and lay a simple false floor, would there be enough weight saving to conserve some fuel?

Many Thanks.

IIRC back seat adds stability as it's part of the cars structural integrity

Back seats weigh so much, so it would save you money on fuel in the long run, my car went back up to standard height at the rear when i took them out for santa pod! and speed wise it was very noticeable! Didnt notice any difference in handling aswell so i would go for it if i was you!

Pretty pointless i think? You drive a very economical car already. Whats the point of taking the rear seat out??? Unless you are going to say santa pod and are intending on putting in some quicker times

Keep the rear seats in mate not really worth the hassle

Would be interesting to see though how much it would alter the fuel consumption....

Don't suppose it would be that dramatic to be honest, and theres always the need for the back seats at the occasional time!!!! ;)

I know the seats could add to the structural integrity of the car but, there only held in with 2 bolts on a Phase 2 so I don't see that making a big difference... Handling will change, but the back could be lowered again to normal hight with some springs.

More economical car is always a good car.

I think I am interested in how much fuel I could save, could be a good experiment, the price of petrol at the moment every mile per gallon extra counts and I rarely have back seat passengers.

Think I will drive around with the back seats folded down for a while & see how much the road noise increase, then move on from there & try an experiment with a weeks driving with seats and without seats.
