Fuel Problems?

hello.

i have a starlet 82 and it behaves strange. it hesistates and sometime just dies on idle. ive changed spark plugs distributor fuel filter and tried to bypass everythin unneccesary in the vacuum system but nothing helps.

last thing i tried was change the (mechanical) fuel pump.

i noticed that i got air in the fuel system.

chould the shim between the engine block and the pump be too thick? why i ask is because the wear pattern on the old pump. it seems too short...
